I personally recommend reggae pop because i have tried it many times.
You know, artists like Bob Marley,Diana King etc.

You can also try country music like Shania Twain.

Ocean waves is great, it works everywhere and lulls you to sleep, covers the sound of traffic or people in the next room, and works just fine when it's perfectly silent, too. Rain, river-sounds...any of those pure-nature sound recording with water.

I also like listening to lectures, can be both interesting and help you fall asleep lol. I just finished listening to the entire William Cooper lecture series "Mystery Babylon", playing a different episode as I drifted off to sleep each night or when I remembered. Unfortunately being asleep I missed most of it lol but the good thing is you can go back and listen to it again!

Metal.
Ironically, listening to metal with complex signature changes (Meshuggah, Periphery, Plante-x(!!)) has somewhat improved my maths skills! Seriously!

Mainly though, I just love metal.

Just to add-binaural beats might help some people fall asleep/have amazing dreams.

Sigur Ros is super calming and great music.

But usually I pass out to the comforting voice of the documentary narrator.

A Perfect Circle and Bob Marley are two that stand out. I personally use a large playlist that includes lots of artists from Pantera (planet caravan) to U2, and everything in-between. I can't go to sleep in less than an hour or more without music.

BBC Radio 4 will always put me to sleep with the nightly book at bed time. I highly recommend it.

IF you have Pandora Streaming radio..
You can build yourself a Natural sounds, ambient sounds station.
We've created one, and it's decent....
But like all Pandora stations, you've got to seed it properly, and use the thumbs-up/thumbs down feature to get it tuned to your personal tastes.

Give it a try!
