Bush stopping Sex Education to stop the spread of HIV

This is startling that these steps are taking place, surely more sex education is good, not less.

It seems that the genearal message is "condoms don't work". A ridiculous statement/opinion in my books.

In place of effective, disease-preventing safe-sex education, little will soon remain except failed programs that denounce condom use, while teaching abstinence as the only way to prevent the spread of AIDS. And those abstinence-only programs, researchers say, actually increase the risk of contracting AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)."

The scariest thing is that this seems based on Bush's religous beleifs. Jewish and muslim groups will recieve no financial aid. That is segregation due to religion.

No matter how much the goverment or any other institution will work on making young people to stay away from sex, it is not going to work.

Sex is part of human make over is part of our nature the best thing to do is to make it safe.

Humans has engage in sex from the beginings of time and not amount of abstinece is going to make it stop.

So it is very silly of this goverment to make it unsafe. People will have sex not matter what safe or not.

That's actually the case, and the view of some of the more extreme right-wing Christians. It shows how little they know about history and society, but they seem to feel that if you don't teach anything about sex then nobody will think about sex (oh, right....) and then there won't be sex until marriage.

This shows how little they actually know about the matter. Kids are going to experiment and kids WILL get pregnant through sexplay if they don't understand how to prevent it. With movies and television and other media shoving the "have sex!" message into their faces, a "let's avoid the whole issue" policy is far more dangerous than sex ed.

Well to me it seems like a huge step backwards instead of forwards. I believe Bush has made other decisions which I consider steps backwards in society policies, I include the gay marriages bans and his abortion policies.

Actually the Gay ban and anti abortion i think is a step forward. And its a good thing those 4000 marriage licenses got revoked in San Fran. And people know what sex does to you if you don't use rubber you r possibly going to get infested. But I wouldn't have cut the education.

I disagree. There is no need for sex education, at the level it is, in the schools. Schools are so busy doing the parents job, that they don't have time for reading, math, and science. American kids are falling behind the world in education. Sex ed belongs with the parents, not the schools. I know .. some here will say that the parents aren't doing their job so someone has to. Perhaps, but some of the stuff passing for sex education is porn. Remember the thread about a month ago - the teacher encouraging his students to taste condoms and ridculing them when they didn't want to? SICK. Statistics from Planned Parenthood are wildly different than the statistics from Priests for Life as to the effectiveness of sex education. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

There is a 'breakage' rate with condoms. They are not 100% effective.
Ask my neighbor and their 'broken condom' baby. Yep. It happens more than folks think. My brother is also a 'broken condom' baby.

NO SEX is still the safest way to go. No, it isn't impossible. We are not animals without brains. We have something called self control. Even teenagers have it. They are capable. They are just having their self control dumbed down .... along with their academics.

In reality this is not a good step. Although yes, our time is limited in school and science, math, social, and LA are getting neglected Sex ED is often times the only place where a kid will ask and learn about it (other than online). I do however belive that too much time is spent on it. With all the sources on the interent and all the help lines that are avalible now adays there is no question that the kids need not help from their schools. The only thing that they might want to do is Sex question week. This would involve kids putting there questions in a box and at some planned time in the day the teacher would answer the question, takeing no more than 5 minutes. I know for a fact that kids would more ask their teacher questions rather than their parents.

Finally proper useage of condoms should be shown at school. If they are used incorrectly than you are at a higher risk of catching a STD. Thats all i got to say, they might want to reconsider...

Well I guess pills do not work either I was on pill when my second child was conceived, did I miss one? Not, I did not but the doctor the month before decided that my prescription was to strong for me so he lowered it, were planning a second child at least 2 years latter but he is well loved.

Like I said children reach maturity children feel and experience, trying to hide the facts is not going to make any different because as everything that is part of the human body young teens are going to learn the right way or the wrong way and the second may is the want that make unwanted babies and because society view on abortion and adoption this babies remained with the natural mother and most of then end up as welfare recipients at least in the area were I live.

I remember going to work at a high school on the (other side of town) and the first day of school in the auditoriums during the welcoming to the first years students they asked the girls that were pregnant to leave it was about 20 of them.

Then after the principal introduce herself the assistance principal that happened to be a female started preaching to the girls in the audience about to keep their legs closed because if they were to get pregnant all they were going to face was a life of poverty and she went on and on I just dropped my mouth open in awe.

I never before in my live had somebody as a principal talking so open about sex and consequences to first year high school students.

In my daughter high school, you will never ever hear something even close to any sex references on the first year of school, neither on the last year.

I see everything as double standard. I only worked for 2 months in that high school it was supposed to be the worst high school to work in the county and it was.

Most teen will start experincing sex one way or another and some will have babies so the best way is to teach them to be safe.

People say "leave it to the parents". Well, if the parents did the job then school wouldn't need to teach it. But wait, many parents don't do this! Like people who say "leave it to the parents to teach kids about morals and correct behavoir" after everytime a kid goes nuts and kills people this changes to "the school should have done more to teach the kids morals and right from wrong".

People, teaching safe sex does not lead to more sex no matter how many idiots believe it. Just like having condoms at school does not cause sex. Condoms do not have psychic powers to make kids have sex, a kid/teen will have sex if they want to. So telling them that condoms are evil and against god isn't a good idea.

You have got to be kidding me! Can Bush Jr. actually do anything more to reverse our societies advancement? This boy just makes me sick.
