Opponents of a new law that gives undocumented immigrants in-state tuition discounts at Maryland’s public colleges have gathered enough
signatures to suspend the law and force a statewide referendum, election officials said Thursday.
Good.
Action can be taken. Now the law says the student has had to attend high school for 3 years and their parents have to be taxpayers. About as close to
citizenship as your gonna get without actually doing it. It is a shame when you hear of illegal students who have been here since 2 years old, not
being able to get into college. But people are having a hard time paying for tuition, why should those who haven't invested the most get a tuition
break when citizens can't even afford the college?
Though I will say I don't know how many people this actually applies too, since the state gets a D- for affordability for higher education.
