There has been a lot of discussion on the internet about S-ducts and blockers on the PAK FA. Basically, how the compressor face is hidden. By all
means, I'm no expert, but would appreciate it if someone here with more knowledge could confirm what I expect.
I've been following the discussion at Key Publishing and some close up photos were shown of the intake during the Indian delegations inspection.
Because I cannot register at Key Publishing, ATS gets the first look at my observations, enjoy.
The perspective is very tough because the depth can be deceitful due to the sharp backward angle on the outside of the intake.
Original, note the saw teeth/hinges...
Cropped, look at the "screens" in blue, and the yellow line it will be need for the next picture...
Look here to see the location of the intake ramp and get the bigger picture, note the yellow line...
Look at the unedited photo of a strait on shot of the intake, look for the screens on the ramp...
Finally, look at this, I slightly enhanced contrast so you can better see the "screens" highlighted in blue and the ramp in the clearly designed
"stealth position" in red...
I have no idea what the screens on the ramp are. Much care has been taken by Sukhoi's designers to have the ramp in this position on the intake, it
fits perfectly. It also completely covers the compressor face. Giving the PAK FA the much flaunted S-duct while maintaining airflow by raising the
ramp when stealth can be sacrificed and performance gained, something not possible on the F-22. This ramp has been discussed before, but the screens
are something new, and I believe this confirms that it is some kind of blocker and not just a conventional ramp.
