This topic comes up here on ATS all the time and there will be lot's of folks who will tell you yes.
But that's complete and utter bunk. I've yet to receive an explanation from anyone who puts their faith in Ouija boards on just how in the hell the
alphabet on a chunk of wood or plastic is magical or is any different from verbally demanding that spirits come forth. Quite simply I could use the
keyboard I'm typing on now as a Ouija board, after all it has the alphabet on it.
Anyway there are numerous down-to-Earth explanations for how the Ouija board "works" for some people but the greatest factor is mindset. If you're
gullible enough to believe in this stuff than ANY event that can even remotely be construed as strange will seem like a result of using the board. A
death or illness in the family, the creaking of floorboards, etc. What happens when you get several superstitious people around one? The same thing
only this time their minds all work together to pick out anything that happens after using the board that could be considered strange. It's just
superstition and confirmation bias hard at work.
Something called the Ideomotor effect can cause the person using the board to move the pointer without realizing it and then, after the moments of
superstitious fear wear off neither party, even if they knew they moved it, would want to own up to their actions. After all it makes for a far better
story to say that the piece moved on its own.
So no, they're not dangerous and there's nothing supernatural about them.
