Saw it at Moffet Field in Mountain View once. It did a STOL takeoff and it just lept off the ground. Incredible plane.

Dale Brown in Flight of the Cheeta described a plane like this

Groingrinder smacks FredT!!! The Drakken is a very beautiful aircraft! I would love to have one. If not allowed to fly it, I would turn the airframe into a hovercraft. Imagine BASS FISHING while standing on the wings. COOL!!

Bass fishing on a 60 foot hovercraft? Unless you plan on going to hunt whales or sharks you will not have an easy time bas fishing on a 60 foot craft.

The Horton was an incredible design. Given more time and supplies the Horton Brothers would have gotten it into the air. The Allies captured a jet power wing made of plywood. It was not ready to fly, but I wonder what happened to it.

I don't understand why everyone like the Black Widow its an ugly plane. It has these ugly stubby wings and open engines at the back it just looks terrible. The Raptor on the other hand is a very sweet looking fighter.

Much better

- The Horten IX did fly Fred, google it and you'll see.

- There is at least one centre section (this comprises of a covered steel tube frame, jets, undercarriage, cockpit......basically everything but the outer wing panels....or at least it did) at the Smithsonian.

There were at least 6 pre-production/prototype centre sections under construction when the factory (garage is more acctuarte) was over-run according to one source.

BTW the trans-atlantic 'uber-jet bomber' design never made it off the drawing paper, obviously and thankfully.

Cool, I will check it out. Is the Smithsonian one on display? I was there a few years ago and did not see one
.

WestPoint: I have to disagree the Black Widow II is the Baddest looking fighter I have ever seen.

Its another good looking plane. IThe TU-160 is also good, but I give the B-1B the edge. The Tu-160's nose just does not do anything for me.

From some angles Black Widow II might look ugly but from some other angles it looks really "cool".

From older fighters it would be Tomcat.

From bombers my choise would be definitely "Bone"/Lancer

If air moisture vaporizing was anti gravity, every supersonic jet in the US inventory would be capable of it.
