The phenomenon of evolution is as much a fact as the phenomenon of gravitation. The theory explains the phenomenon. Of course we can't be 100% sure that the theory describes reality (all thou it makes falsifiable predictions and so forth) because it's impossible to rule out that pink unicorns from the 7th dimension aren't actually pulling the strings and making it seem as if the theory works. But then it's the same with every phenomenon. Maybe the moon is only orbiting Earth because invisible unicorns are pulling it in circles.. the same with the planets orbiting the Sun..
