OCR, or Optical Character Recognition, is a scanning software ability that became pretty big when corporations had to start transferring written/typed documents into computer data bases. Many scanners today offer it, and almost all high-end CCD scanners offered have it as well. The Company "Brother" started offering it to home users in the early 90s (a company I spent years selling the products of). Its basically a way to scan text and have a computer recognize said text as letters and numbers instead of just an image. The computer can then read the text as text. Its a way for the computer to take a picture of text and then convert and recognize it as text. MM

No you did not. You explained the Whitehouse has enhanced and optimized the doc and failed to notice that that is basically saying the doc was altered.

What you failed to notice in your lack of understanding on the technical side of the argument is this-

Optimizing or enhancing any image in Illustrator, you will not get a link history showing images entered the file from another source, "on their side" and with a history showing that sizes were altered.

That will not happen with an image scan...OCR or not...PDF or not.

I can not claim to be an expert but I can say I've used these programs to produce tens of thousands of scans and images for many many years. Hell, one of my little 2 minute cartoons contain over 5 thousand enhanced/optimized images alone...and that is just a little cartoon.

You have no idea what the argument even is...never mind the fact that you don't know anything about image editing or Adobe products.

In less words- you are parroting crap from sources you blindly trust and not speaking from a "know" stance.

The answer should come very easy to anyone who has one based on the functions of Illustrator. The guy who taught me Illustrator (an expert as far as I'm concerned) agrees there is problems here.

Kitilani, I'm wondering what his posting history or his involvement in comic books has to do with any of this? If you felt the need to check his posting history based on what he's stated in this thread, then I have to wonder why. Nothing he has posted has been outrageous. I believe his comments have been relevant and truthful, expressed with the same kind of frustration many people, like myself, have experienced. I don't have to be an expert in Adobe Illustrator to understand what his concerns are and to see why they are valid, and I appreciate an opinion from anyone who is familiar with these programs who wants to offer their viewpoints. I didn't see any other resident "experts" come on this thread and claim his points were invalid.

Frankly, it is becoming clearer to me that extensive expertise isn't needed to identify these anomalies that have been pointed out by so many. Seems people with basic knowledge of the program could see them if they examined the document for themselves.

could it be that by enhance they mean they used the selection tool around words on the scan, that were too faded to read legibly, and applied some kind filter to enhance it like contrast or gamma correction or edge finding? would this create a link? if so and there were several faded areas, many links would be created.
