I was all ready to start shouting about how brilliant England is after reading the title*, then I realised two important facts:

1) The tone of your post, which I appreciate.

2) I left England 2 years ago to live in Australia, which actually trumps both the UK and the USA for awesomenes. Best place in the world mate! LOL

(*This will teach me not to judge a book by it's cover, or even a thread by it's title - hopefully!)

I shot one of my 63 televisions with one of my 52 guns.

The driving on the roads thing was odd at first but one adjusts quickly but I will say those first few hours after the red eye and little sleep driving out of the airport were weird to say the least. I can't believe there isn't some kind of - hey this is left hand drive training requirement.

Beer was better - any pub has a better selection than bigger and well appointed bars here. The restriction on drinking times in pubs I think contributes a lot to the binge drinking in England. It's a small window in which to consume as much alcohol as possible. Otherwise you have to go to a club to drink like later than 2300 or so heard that might have changed.

I have to say I love my guns and since I wasn't fortunate enough to inherit any land I am glad there is some still left here to buy. I bet farmsteads are hard to come by in England. Wonder how much 40 acres of pasture and 100 acres of prime farmland costs in England? Or do they even have 140 acres of land?

Also, portion shock was funny - I once asked if they gave me the lunch portion by mistake at a restaurant...

The people were cool especially the soldiers I hung out with.

The girls seemed to be less high maintenance than American girls.

All that said I am glad to be an American - Happy 4th!

Hi,

I Live in Australia, have been to both the USA and U.K for extended periods, and after both experiences realized one thing in my travels.

Neither one will ever compare to Australia, not even slightly.

I appreciate the time i spent in both of these fantastic countries ad loved every minute of it, but until you have been to Australia and lived here for even a month, you will notice a relaxed type of lifestyle you do not find anywhere in the world and great friendly people with minimal crime in comparison to USA/UK, better living conditions, better beaches, better women.

USA has way better bands and music, that's for damn sure
UK has terrible weather but to make up for that they have a pub on nearly every corner

After reading all of this thread all I have to say is that Americans and British bicker over such minor issues, I think it is done because we are afraid that if we do not exaggerate these minor issues then perhaps we will see that there are hardly any differences between the two of us. Sure there are some minor things such as health care, taxes, secularism, but they are all minor differences. Americans, Britains, and Canadians are so much alike it is almost scary.

Face it. Americans and Britains like to drink, play/watch sports, argue politics, argue religion, believe we are getting the shaft by tptb, and what is most important about all that is the fact that we both share the right of being allowed to do all of that. Had it not been for those liberty loving Brits of the past thousand years fighting revolutions, revolting against authority, drawing up and enforcing the magna carta, then neither of us would be anything like we are today.

So to my fellow Americans and the British please don't hate each other direct hate where it really is deserved, at those stinky Australians.

As somebody who lived in England for around 30 years and the US for around 6 years, I can confidently proclaim the result is a draw. Both have good points and bad. England may just win it because of the Premier League.....in the US there's just "hand egg" (www.motivationalz.com...) and some glorified version of rounders that everybody thinks is brilliant, but is actually even more boring than cricket
However, the weather in England is horrible.......arg, I don't know........I can't choose between the two.

Oh mighty slayer of tin cans, with every post you garner more awe from me. LOL.

Heres one for you:
Language, I know theoretically we speak the same language but really do we?
US: Toilet UK: Loo
US: cigarette UK: fag
US: Call me. UK: ring me up.
US: come over to my place. UK: Knock me up. ( US has whole other meaning for that one dear brits)
US: Take a vacation UK : Go on holiday.

???? Hmmm?

Ring me up?

Knock me up?

Who the hell says that in the UK?

Regards, Skellon.

As an Englishman abroad. In my case 'the colonies.' This thread struck me quick profoundly.

License for TV. No. Just for the BBC radio/TV which has ZERO commercials. I know you can't actually wrap you head around what "ZERO COMMERCIALS" means, but is a fair price.
Cable/Satellite is how much? No commercials/adverts? No.

63 TVs. You didn't mean that at all, right.

Guns. Oh, dear. So, please tell me all the exploits of you and your neighbours (yes, there's a "U" in it. It's English!) fending off the hoards with your precious guns. No? You didn't. No, you didn't.
Massive firepower didn't keep you safe. You think it did. It didn't.
How much did you spend on guns/ammo in the last ten years. Is this profitable to the gun/ammo makers? Yes.
Lobbyists in DC are not lobbying for you rights to carry arms. They are lobbying for your rights to spend money on arms.

By the way, I will defend - to the death - your right to carry a muzzle loading, single shot musket.
Well, you keep bringing up the founding fathers, not me. They certainly didn't have AR-15s.

Stop bashing other countries when your experience was completely as an outsider. How long did you live there? What did you do to make yourself part of the community? How much time did you spend bitching about how things are so different from the USA?
It's not better. It's not worse. It's different. It's older.
History books go back hundreds of years. More than 200.
Don't bash it because it's not familiar.

When I say, "Germany" what is the first thing that comes to mind? Is it Hitler? Is it WW2?
Amazing, you have this whole 'Anglo-Saxon" ethos, yet no idea of where Angles and Saxons came from!!!
Get over your bad self.

There is no point in comparing any two countries. Period. (Full Stop for you Brits).

I am an Englishman living in the USA. Is it better? No. Is it different? Yes.
Am I happy? Yes. But that's because my lifestyle is compatible to where I live.
If you live in a country incompatible to your lifestyle, it's probably that the country is not the problem.

That's where it counts.

Remember, the terrorists hate you for your freedoms.
Please list those freedoms now. Then compare them to the P.A.T.R.I.O.T. act, and see if you are living under false pretenses. But you are free to carry a firearm. With a license..... You didn't pay for that, right?
Freedom? You PAY for a freedom? Really? How silly.

Stop it. It's been over 200 years. No Brit and no "Septic" are the same as they were back then.
It's a pointless post.

Go get that big "We're NUMBER ONE" foam finger, and wave it around for a while. Sooner or later you might see how ridiculous you look. We've all been seeing that for a while.

Good night.

OK, normally I wouldn't nit-pick about something like this but, since you brought it up in a rant;

Why America is better than England, a Independence Day Thread

Shouldn't that read: AN Independence Day Thread?

Go git 'im boys...

I have to confess, I do enjoy the Presidential Race you guys have, brings some excitement to politics.

I love the diverse geography of North America and the diverse climate.

I think you guys are very hospitable for the most part too, still enjoy the "Have a nice day, Sir" etc

I have been to the states alot when I was younger, I was brought up in a family that loved our American cousins.

So, it brings me no pleasure to bring up significant inventions.

We, kick your a**es in this field to be quite frank.

To name a few;

Internal Combustion Engine
Steam Engine
Jet Engine
Locomotive
Electric Motor
Penicillin
Television
Light Bulb
Submarine
Aircraft Locating Radar
World Wide Web
Viagra (haha)

British Inventions

Nothing personal of course and I won't get into the detailed discussion of why we lost to you, just enjoy it, it is history now.

Regards and Respect, Skellon.
