If this is really bothering you that bad then get some help. Some real help, you are not going to find the help you need here on ATS or anywhere on the net for that matter. This has to be done in person and one on one. Good luck

It's not even the murder that is bad anymore, that time is passed. Now it is the guilt that you have. Once you realize that the guilt is the problem, then you can work to forgive yourself and forget about it. All that really matters in this world is the love that you have for it. That's what you take with you in the end. Everyone makes mistakes. Just don't dwell on the past man, its passed. All you can do is change yourself for the better in this moment.

First of all, if the OP's post is taken at face value, this is not murder. The OP was working in a military capacity and came under fire. Why are you trying to portray it as if he committed murder and that he "made a mistake?"

Do you have any proof though???

You know the saying ""pics or it didnt happen""!

So you claim to have been on some mission with some military in Belize on the Guatemalan border and hiding out in the welsh hills
and shot a 15yr old child and then right after just up and got out of the military.

Again. When did this happen? What year?
What military were you with? US? UK? Belize?
Why were you there? What war or operation were involved in?
How did you know it was a 15yr old kid?

As someone who knows people who actually go to war and engage with others and have to shoot and be shot at and deal with the aftermath of PTSD, it would be insulting to find out that this did not really happen.

Being evasive on such a major story that you felt you needed to share is rather eyebrow raising, would you not agree?

Murder is when a human kills another human. It does not matter what reason you have for killing a person. The mistake was joining the military in the first place.

Do you seriously think that it's okay to kill someone just because your government says its okay? If it was okay, would he be feeling this guilt?

Narrow.

I seriously doubt he has a picture of some 15yr old he allegedly shot.
I really do not believe this is a situation of "pictures or it did not happen"
However, there are enough holes in this story that it is at best, questionable. So, it is more like "details or did not happen".

So you would equate Ted Bundy with a Soldiers, Marines, Airmen or Sailors in terms of murder? What of malice? What of premeditation? What of mental illness? What of greed? What of the various degrees of murder in the American legal system, the British legal system, et al?

No, you appear to be arrogating the reference "&" sense meaning of "murder" under one category, which is a dangerous precedent should it begin to fill the minds of legislative bodies that murder resides under one and only one category, therefore its punishment is encapsulated by one rule. If this were the case, then those who killed in demonstable self-defense could be and would be labeled murderer & suffer punishment under one and only one rule for all.

Suffice it to say I don't agree with your interpretation of murder.

First and foremost, thank you for trying to protect your fellow trainees. Take pride in your actions and your subsequent choice to resign. It seems like you did what you thought was right.

Hopefully you were able to gain positive identification of the threat before firing, but I understand that it isn't always feasible to do so. Once a round exits the muzzle, it can behave recklessly. The opposing force brought the same recklessness against your team. Sounds like you didn't break any rules of engagement. Status of Forces Agreements have gray areas that this probably fell within.

There is probably a good reason that U.S. forces are involved in that area of the world, and your actions probably had positive effects that you may be unaware of.

If this 15 year old was involved in illicit activities, his death may have discouraged other young men from following a similar path. While it is unfortunate that his life ended at such a young age, you may have spared him from taking other lives.

There is always the possibility of regret for any action you take in life, but I would focus on building upon the choices you have already made. Your perception of what you have done matters most. Take pride in yourself, because others may not choose to do it for you.

I couldn't agree more... I truly feel bad even stepping on a bug... I believe in bad karma...

It's easier to give up but much harder to carry on if you care to do so...

The 15 year old made a mistake he wont make again... Let that be a lesson to all 15 year old's.

I'm sad for his family, but he probably had a b-line shot to your forehead and wouldn't have hesitated after years of GTA training...

You did the right thing... We are so very much more grateful that YOU are HERE posting on this forum rather than the 15 year old...

It could be Ptsd I have friends who are active duty and have had many confirmed kills and we speak of it often but Its WAR Get over it and yourself !!!

Now this is a school example of a psychopath.

People have confirmed kills every minute of everyday and they deal with it.

You see this, definitely the reasoning of a psychopath.

Best of luck in dealing with it and I undewrstand you had no choice so let me be the first to say it wasn't your fault.

Yes it was, he pulled the trigger. Period. It wasn't his fault what?

When ever I have questioned an order or my actions to engage an enemy I tell myself it was either him/her or me thats always worked for me ...Peace and take care

This is psychopathic reasoning and it is what they do to you in military training. Trust me bub, you are too young to understand this, but once you reach your years of wisdom you'll want to kill yourself for ever thinking like this. Big, huge commandos that go on secret missions do, and they definitely got the intelligence over you.

Curious.
I have yet to see what branch of service you are in and or in what capacity you served.
If US Army I would suspect ODA 7th SFG training the Belize who are in the BSAG. Is this correct?

Otherwise I don't know why you would have been there when typically Panama is the hot topic with soldiers who have prior service stories. It isn't uncommon to be recruited to work jointly in assistance to Spec ops to police drug trafficking locations and setting up pinch points along crossroads.

But beyond that I can't figure why you were in Belize of all places.
Were you a private contractor? Some private security firms operate with in this capacity. I was an executive protection specialist. Part of your job among other things was to retrieve victims of kidnapping (when it is in regards to your principle) and only under very specific guidelines to a contractual agreement. That will often require you to potentially engage a civilian or militia force. That was a Mexico city issue, again NOT Belize.
