The two situations are really quite different. The NBA players simply want more cash with no further demands placed upon them. For that they are
greedy, selfish jerks, 99% of who would be day laborers were it not for their atheletic skills.
The NFL owners want to add two more games to the season and not compensate the players at all. Additionally, the players want the owners to pay for
health insurance for older players who retired and who are now feeling the brutal affects of playing the game absent improved medical treatments and
equipment and the owners are refusing. In the case of the NFL, the billionaire owners are being selfish jerks, many of whom got rich off the public
dime, the public of course paying for the venues used by the teams, yet most of the venues being "owned" by the owners. Take a look at how George
W. Bush made his dough when he was partial owner of the Texas Rangers. Its estimated that the owners are essentially asking the players to play up
to 150 additional plays per season for some positions and with each play being a potentially career ending play, the players deserve to be compensated
(regardless of how much they are being paid today).
The entire sports business in this country is a joke. A joke created by fans. Were the fans to simply boycott one major media market's teams for
a season - no watching, no attendance, no purchase of merchandise perhaps these fools would realize what a great deal they have.
Paul Allen has a 414 foot yacht. He needs more money and is unwilling to pay for health insurance for a couple hundred gents who built the game into
what it is today? The players have already indicated that they will contribute to the insurance.
In the NBA it is the players who are at fault. In the NFL it is the owners.
