Harvard: July 4th Parades Are Right-Wing

www.usnews.com

A new Harvard University study finds that July 4th parades energize only Republicans, turn kids into Republicans, and help to boost the GOP turnout of adults on Election Day.

there is a political congruence between the patriotism promoted on Fourth of July and the values associated with the Republican party. Fourth of July celebrations in Republican dominated counties may thus be more politically biased events that socialize children into Republicans,"

Time to cancel the 4th of July celebrations. They are obviously harmful to society.

-they generate right wing, Republican fanatics

-fireworks cause irreparable harm to the environment

-the political views of youth are forever changed

-they encourage xenophobic attitudes

What exactly are they studying at Harvard? The 4th of July is a celebration of American freedom. It has no political agenda and I have always found the 4th to be a day where folks of all philosophies can come together and celebrate our common heritage. Its not a right or left thing.

The scholarship here is comical. On the one hand they suggest that Republican communities have larger 4th of July celebrations and then go on to suggest that kids who grow up in those communities are likely to become Republican and attempt to infer a direct relationship between a party once a year and political sentiment. Could it possibly be that there is some influence on the kids by their families or the community at large, or is merely the flag waving one day a year that forms the basis of ideology?

Democrats are equally patriotic as are Republicans. Most of the 4th of July I attended as a kid were dominated by union families who were as patriotic as anyone you would find and would never vote for a Republican.

The hard left may hate America and find patriotism to be a negative element in society. Perhaps the folks at Harvard need to learn that despite what the elite think and believe, Left does not equal Democrat.

The left of today has far more in common with the extreme right wing, both being extremists and has no real relationship with the Democrat party, the same way the folks who supported David Duke have any real relationship to the Republican party.

More divisive rubbish from the academic elite.

I have always loved this quote:

"I'd rather entrust the government of the United States to the first 400 people listed in the Boston telephone directory than to the faculty of Harvard University."

Hah, what? Seriously? I've visited California several times, once during July 4th, and we were invited to a party hosted by non-republicans. I've never seen so much patriotism, so I have no idea what Harvard is talking about!

It was a great atmosphere, and actually quite unifying. Maybe that's the problem here, without unification we are easier to manipulate. I hope my US brothers and sisters don't let some witless fools with suspect studies ruin a cheerful day.

Perfect example of Harvard being used by left wing fanatics.
Time to make it illegal to give any federal taxpayer scholarship money to Harvard and their ilk, the money is being used to brainwash the youth of today into pinko commies.

I think patriotism is an important factor for the success of socialism ideas and some people on the left seem to forget that.

Working for your country should be viewed with has much honor then being a soldier.
Well, that's my opinion.

Does this mean I'm a closet Republican?
Do I need to come out? lol

And I pretty much detest the Republican party. I compare the Republican party with Mos Eisley Spaceport.

You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious.

Wow what a dumb study.

I swing pretty far to the left. My whole life I have celebrated the 4th in style with fireworks flags and good food. I certainly don't think celebrating an important event in American history could be considered "politically biased".

Never once do I remember lighting off a bottle-rocket and thinking to myself I should vote for a Republican. I just don't see the correlation.

Gotta laugh at this Harvard study. Probably conducted as favor to its former HLR president Barry Soetoro. Is it any wonder when you consider that at least 28 of Obama's appointees are Harvard graduates. The most of any higher learning institution by far. Harvard is very proud of that fact. Surprised??

Well, then that same study could be interpreted to say that Democrats are un-Patriotic, enemies of the state, with no respect for history, tradition, or the inalienable rights that our Declaration of Independence was written to ensure.

Not saying that is necessarily my opinion (it might be), but I am saying that it all depends on perspective doesn't it.

This study is a joke and a waste of resources.

If you have kids, odds are you are taking them to see fireworks on the 4th of july...possibly a family get together and a cookout as well. It doesn't matter what side of the aisle you are on.

Personally, I can't wait for the 4th and the fireworks show...not for me...but for my kid who get to see them for the first time.

Does the blog actually link to the study?
I'd prefer to read it myself.
Can anyone find it?

Our findings are significant: one Fourth of July without rain before age 18 increases the likelihood of identifying as a Republican at age 40 by 2 percent, the share of people voting for the Republican candidate at age 40 by 4 percent, and the share of people turning out to vote at age 40 by 0.9 percent.

Is it 4 of july or 1st of April?

Since Harvard (and most other colleges and universities in the US) is nothing but a cesspool of Liberal loonies, the "results" of this so-called "study" don't surprise me. It's nothing but more Leftist propaganda cloaked in the guise of a "scientific' study.....

Democrats should take this study to heart and stay home on the 4th of July so I can get in and out of the celebrations with only half the traffic to contend with.

Seriously, my sister-in-law and her husband are Democrats, as well as some co-workers, and while our political opinions may differ, we both share the love for country and Indepedence Day activities.

What's that saying about "All book sense and no common sense?" It had to be someone of this mentality to conduct this study.

BTW, I hope EVERY American is having a wonderful 4th of July weekend!

If celebrating the 4th is wrong, I don't want to be right. HAHAHA! Right! Get it? That's as ridiculous as this article. Thanks for bringing to light even more reasons to laugh at the Progressives.

"Time to cancel the 4th of July celebrations. They are obviously harmful to society. "

Amen.. patriotism is nothing but an excuse to hate people you've never met and take pride in accomplishments you had nothing to do with:

Anything that encourages people to vote GOP, or DNC, is harmful to Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libyans, the constitution, civil liberties, the economy, the truth, peace.. and anybody who loves freedom.

Lets just call it "blow stuff up day".. simply an excuse to party with no political / nationalistic or other irrational agenda attached. China might lose billions in colored cloth on a stick trinket sales tho..
