lol, the second pic is a fake, and the arch in the first pic has now partially collapsed, its become a rememberance monument...but from what I can find, they are made out of granite.

They use all kind of Material for this Gates, Wood from a Pine-Tree, Metal, Granite and even Cement!

But normally the use Wood!

My guess would be first one steel reinforced concrete second one timber, well seasoned timber is very strong depending on the type. The horazontal sections could be pre-stressed laminated timber which is incredibly strong or carved from solid timber. Notice the tree next to the second one is still standing, There is probably more of the posts in the ground than out.

The first one looks unburnt after what we know happened. They could be made from a few different things.

Very cool arches though, the tops look a bit like a boat.

I wonder what the tradition is behind them.

OK here it is. As I suspected they are in fact different Torii "Arch".

Wiki shows different styles of them. Very cool and rugged design, they are meant to last and not fall down.
