ok folks... here's the short and sweet of it.

ONE molecule of plutonium within your system... ONE... will radiate energy for 24 thousand years. It eventually will burn holes right through you... you WILL most likely develop cancer

It's not quite that simple. The half life of Plutonium 239 (the weapons grade stuff) is 24,100 years. That means that after that period of time half of the amount will have decayed, by alpha decay (release of a helium nucleus). And plutonium is montatomic, unlike oxygen and ydrogen in narture, which are diatomic - O2 and H2. So you really don't speak of such monatomic elements, in their pure form, as molecules. They exist as discrete atoms.
So after 24,000 plus years the substance is still radiating. After that time,Half of it still exists and radiates, by alpha decay, as plutonium. The other half exists and radiates, also by alpha decay, as Uranium 235, which, by the way, has a half life of 704 million years. Eventually, after going through a long chain of nucleides, it all ends up as lead.
Stuff doesn't just shut off after it reaches its half life. There are trace amounts of Plutonium, as Plutonium 244, which can be found on earth. As with all elements, it was created by the Big Bang, 13 or 14 billion years ago. It has a half life of "only" 80 million years, yet is still radiating away.

Ah yes, I left out the additional half life equations... thanks for clarifying that.

I just figured 24,000 years of radiating energy was enough to elaborate on...

One of the strange things about 1/2 life is, as I understand it, that the longer the 1/2 life, the lower the amount of radiation released or somethign like that?

so if somethng has a 1/2 life of 1 second then 1/2 the decay happens in 1 second, half of what is left in the next second, etc.

So with a 1/2 life of 24,00 or so years Pu239 isn't giving off much radiation at all, and the 800 million year 1/2 life uranium even less?

And plutonium radiation is pretty much harmless externally - being alpha radiation, but if ingested it is a considerable danger since hten the alpha radiation can affect the organs the substance resides in (alpha is stopped by almsot anything IIRC, but is extremely energetic at short range??)

Of course as a heavy metal it is quite toxic - like lead and others only moreso.

I'm gonna have to call disinfo on that...

A chance of burning plutonium waste is a HUGE deal.

Do you realize how many particles of this stuff it takes to kill you?!?!??

Aww, you don't have to worry too much, --- the "all plutonium" containment building is concrete! .. All safe and sound. Well, except that anyone watching Brien Williams now knows where it is. Lots of stuff there, too!!

The plant in Omaha has "8 stories" of spent fuel rods in it's concrete building (Is it wet in there yet, 7 stories underground?), and more in concrete casks out back. It is looking fit to float off -- (it won't of course) ... but that is one heck of a chunk of water in the Missouri Watershed!

Fuku likely put Mox fuel rod pieces out in the Pacific when that reactor blew, and those particles are following the Japan current to the shores of the Northwest.

Were do you find data on the transpiration of hot particles from a cold and warm ocean? I have had my noggin in 3D-animation and not gotten very well educated on web searching.

A little nuclear leakage down the big muddy and into the Gulf / Atlantic ... just exacerbates survival issues left over from Co-wrex-it. It will just migrate over to the western shores of the EU.

Fuel rods can be neutralized with browns gas .. [HHO torch], but who is going to do all that work?
! .. Robots!!

Which brings up another unkind point: .. About this year's awful weather -- not all of which can be blamed on gravity troughs and Elenin.
(...)
Is this the reason for the record snow pack, and the overburdened "earthen" dams in the Missouri Watershed?... Could it be?

The rat is looking much blacker as Soros and Co. try to buy up prime farm land now underwater, and "corn harvests" will be 2.2 million acres short this year! (Farmers will be short on mortgage money, too.)

(...)

Learn to eat so as to protect yourself from radiation!!

This is critical and everyone needs to know, and grocery stores should have check out Geiger Counters next year, which you can borrow to pick out your produce, and your bread and milk! (.. not kidding!) Maybe they could be at the check out where you unload your stuff?

If Ele leaves us with any infrastructure .. we may still have to contend with radiation from any number of sources, and prepared is so much better than being left flat footed!!

Could one of the mods who knows their way around the web put up a thread on how to eat to protect oneself from hot particles .. and what to use in your garden as well?

Greetings:

Great minds...! ..............Stars & Flags!

We are currently working on such a thread (how to eat to protect oneself from hot particles and radiation protection/ remedies in general) as we speak.

If anyone reading this has any "home remedies" not readily available on the internet and would like to include those in the OP, please PM us the info.

Theres no why! Only when.

The problem now is people will continue to only ask questions instead of acting.

Go00d news finally ..

"Tucker said that although he believes Los Alamos is now “a safe environment, it’s going to be a smoky one,” and he said that all trails are closed and that residents should not enter any land where the fire has burned."

"Although rain is welcome in the area, Tucker said that “If we get any significant rain, theres going to be flooding.” Weather forecasters said there is a 20 percent chance of rain in the area today, increasing to 30 percent tonight. Officials expect fire growth on the northern and northwestern edges of the fire today."

Greetings:

Meanwhile, back to the Fukushima World-Killer Nuke Meltdowns and the [color=limegreen]continuing radiation poising of our land, food and children - 24/7/365.

zorgon, what is your take on this?

Well, I spent three weeks following that Fukushima story doggedly... then in the end I found out three things...

1) Except for a handful of people and those that live in the area... NO ONE CARES...

2) We are still here... 1000's of nuke tests (especially near my home town) medical radiation, space radiation, CME's, cell tower radiation, microwave radiation... etc etc.. and we are STILL HERE.. and world population is increasing exponentially

3) Radiation is good for you

Greetings:

Thank you for your insightful and timely response.

1) We have been attempting to sound the alarm in the many nuke-related threads in our signature, and have come to the same conclusion: NO ONE CARES...

However, having spent the last six weeks on the road in the Hurricane Irene-ravaged areas of North Carolina, we were amazed - no, dumfounded - that [color=limegreen]NOT ONE PERSON we spoke with (including fellow First Responder Volunteer Firepersons) had any clue about Fukushima 24/7/365.

The Captain of the local department said that "there is no problem, or the USGOV/EPA would alert us, and it would be on television, right? (!???!)

Revised Conclusion: The people have been denied the basic information to make informed decisions as to how best "handle" the radiation poisoning nightmare.

2) Never thought that you would not be (there) "here" - after all, who would want to leave that pool? And whatever happens in "here" (there) stays in "here," (there), right mate?

3) You and Ann Coulter make such a great pair...

Glad to be back.

As we have been attempting to bring to light for over six months (!), there exists a world-wide conspiracy in the MSM to deprive the public of the facts regarding the dire consequences of the melt-throughs of the nuclear reactors at Fukushima-Daiichi.

Please listen up, people.

Your life and the lives of your loved ones may very well depend on your access to and use thereof of potentially life-saving information being kept from you by the EPA/USGOV.

The total number of days between Friday, March 11th, 2011 and Tuesday, October 11th, 2011 is 214 days.

The radiation poisoning of our people, food and land has continued unabated - 24/7/365 - for exactly 7 months.

For your edification and enjoyment (bewilderment), a few 'notable' stories that seemed to miss mass circulation and perhaps a peek at what might have been missed on the 6:00 o'clock news...:

Three days into the disaster, this FOR EYES ONLY memo circulated at the NRC.

14 March 2011
NRC ONLY Update – All 3 Reactor Cores Likely Damaged

15 March 2011
Fukushima Daiichi Units Degrading – Zirconium Fire at Reactor 4 SFP – Reactor 2 Possible Reactor Vessel Breach & Ex-Vessel Core Reaction

My goodness gracious! And we thought they (TEPCO/JAPGOV) said they had this "stabilized..." and presumably under control...

At least, that is what they (and the EPA/USGOV) would have you believe.

Fast-forward about six months to more headlines you may have missed in your local media:

the Caesium map is interesting - it shows the US has much less than almost all of Europe after Chernobyl - see CEREA's Fukushima page

But it's biological half life is small - 70 days, and it is easily treated with Prussian Blue of all things!

Greetings:

Thank you for your interest and informative reply.

Are you completely dismissing the fact that we, the people of the United States, have been suffering from radiation poisoning since mid-March?

The red herring about the biological half-life is pathetic.

This is the same bravo sierra that we get from the EPA.

Are you implying that Prussian Blue can/will mitigate all effects of this Cesium fallout?

How many people that you know have actually heard of Prussian Blue, have access to it and have been using it as a preventive/remedial action?

Have you been promoting this remedy to your friends and loved ones?

Did you completely miss the point that there is an ongoing world-wide ecological disaster, and - apparently - there is NO SOLUTION to the continuous release of radiation from the Fukushima reactors 24/7/365?

Do you have any other positive input or ideas or comments about any of the other related posts we have made on this subject?

We look forward to further communication and thank you for your time and consideration.

In Peace, Love & Light

The forest fire near Chernobyl re-released radiation that blew around the entire planet. The trees had radiation in them, when they burnt they released radiation.

Even the shrubs 3.5 miles from Los Alamos likely contain radiation, and will re-release it when they are burnt.

Anybody got a geiger counter down there?

Greetings:

Disingenuous answer.

You (should) know perfectly well that it will take months, if not years, for the 24/7/365 contamination to show up.

Are you actually inferring that there is no clear and present danger from the ongoing onslaught of radiation from Fukushima?

So since there's no evidence of poisoning, as you admit, what is your evidence that there is poisoning going on??

The doses and effects of Cs137 poisoning are fairly well known - eg see here - so how much radiation are US citizens getting from Cs??
