I had a similar problem with my XP computer.

It has been so long ago I forget what I did to fix it.

I would start to use FireFox though I am not a fan of FF4 and an sticking to FF3.6 until the add ons for FF4 all

get updated.

The last think I would do is install Chrome if you have a Google issue!

Find Advanced System Care the free version and install it and run it.

I also use Glary Utilities to see what it does.

(UPDATE) I went to run CCleaner and there was a update available.

I downloaded the update and it also installed Google Chrome and the Google tool bar on my computer and made Chrome my default browser!!

I have Win& on my netbook and I despise it so I am sticking with XP SP3 until smoke starts coming from the hard drive.

I don't play games and it is more than sufficient.

Automatic updates were a problem to a student downloading work and slowed down
costing him time. Found out it was a Microsoft update. Now he just wants to be notified
of the updates.
There are problems with XP I have not determined yet but now somehow I lost connection
to the updates that might just solve them.
Perhaps I can get updates at the site or updates for XP are not provided any more.
That sounds more like it.
