The populist leader of Venezuela is reportedly dead as of yesterday, according to the Wikileaks Argentinian Twitter feed:

@WikileaksAR: NOW CONFIRMED! Argentinean Embassy Cable: Hugo Chavez died of heart attack yesterday in Cuba

Source

The net is already buzzing with the rumors.

Of course, here's the denial: Venezuela denies Hugo Chavez in critical condition

The Venezuelan government rejected reports that President Hugo Chavez is in critical condition following emergency surgery in Cuba, insisting the firebrand leftist leader was "recovering well."

Chavez's government said he had an operation for a pelvic abscess on June 10 and continues to mend.

"He is recovering," Information Minister Andres Izarra told AFP in the wake of a report by Miami's El Nuevo Herald citing unnamed US intelligence sources as saying the 56-year-old "is in critical condition - not on the brink of death, but critical indeed."

And damage control:

I'm following the Twitter of Yoani Sanchez, a Cuban blogger who totally defies the Cuban dictatorship. Right now, she's updating fresh information about a major police operation in Vidal Park, near Havana, Cuba. According to her, the police have shut down all telephone lines in the area and went to arrest a Methodist minister who supposedly leaked information about the death of Hugo Chavez. Yoani says that all cellphone services have been down for over 12 hours in that area.

He was in Cuba getting surgery to remove a pelvic abscess on June 10th and was expected back in Venezuela by July 5th since no cancer was found. Sounds like a rare complication if its true?

Yep, that exact article has been copy/pasted on several MSM sites already. The source in my original post (from a different news agency) has the exact same story. I updated the original post with a Twitter feed of someone in Cuba saying that parts of Havana are in military lockdown right now, with cellphones having been cut out for 12 hours. They are looking to arrest a priest who leaked the information... The price you pay for telling the truth, eh?

yeah I noticed the lockdown bit you posted. The biggest problem is actually trying to work out what is real and what is not. Thats the dilema in these current times.. There is little or no truth about things it seems..

same article spread all over the world?

An agenda.. perhaps?

Maybe. If he really is dead, they might delay the news until a significant day - he is a hero to many in Venezuela after all. My guess would be July 5, Venezuela's independence day. I doubt they'd wait until his birthday (July 28). Keep your ear out for news from people other than the Cuban and Venezuelan governments.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I doubt they'd want to crush people's spirits on Independence Day with this news... Expect it soon, then the holiday can be in remembrance of him.

IF this is true then this is some big news...

A little fishy that is would be a heart attack, that always seems to be the way that silent "hits" go down.
I am very interested to see what the truth of this whole matter is but I have a feeling that this leak is accurate.

The NWO is lining up the ducks and they are about to start the final stages of their plan.

I would say it is true. And heres a article showing what there prepareing for.

www.chron.com...

CARACAS, Venezuela — One of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez's brothers said Sunday that backers of the hospitalized leftist leader should not rule out armed struggle in the future, though they prefer to maintain power at the ballot box.

Chavez's older brother said Venezuela's ruling party wants to retain power by defeating foes in elections. But he told government supporters that they should be ready to take up arms if necessary.

"As authentic revolutionaries, we cannot forget other forms of fighting," he said during a prayer meeting for the health of his 56-year-old brother in the leader's home state of Barinas.

Quoting Latin American revolutionary icon Ernesto "Che" Guevara, the president's brother added: "It would be inexcusable to limit ourselves to only the electoral and not see other forms of struggle, including the armed struggle."

I see a civil war coming. And im sure Hillary and Obama are already making plans for a speech to say how he is with the people of Venezuela and will help in any way possible. The no-fly zone will start when e civil war starts.

"No one else is really ready to step in and take charge," said Michael Shifter, president of the Inter-American Dialogue, a Washington-based think tank. "The current situation shows how precarious one-man rule is: Everything hinges on the whims of a single individual."

"A search for a successor to Chavez would significantly scramble the country's politics," Shifter said. "A fierce power struggle within Chavismo would almost certainly ensue."

Infighting also would likely break out within Venezuela's loosely knit opposition, which plans to hold a primary to pick a presidential candidate for next year's election.

"The opposition would also be thrown off balance," Shifter said. "Their single-minded focus on Chavez has kept them more united in recent years."

I agree - "patriots" refuse to see the ugliness behind the leaders that they support, and will defend these people until the end.

Hugo Chavez is a great man, although like all of us he has his faults. But I can respect someone who stands up for the poor and segregated, denounces greed and corporate hegemony, realizes the importance of culture and heritage, and refuses to be bullied by the imperialist West.

He has been an important man to many in Latin America - so the ignorant and hateful opinions of "some people" on internet forums need to be taken with a grain of salt, and a dash of pity.

There have been many wishes for pain and death to Bush, Cheney, and lots of others here on ATS over the years. Please don't try to play that card in support of a socialist dictator who censors the news his people see, rigs elections, and is driving Venezuela into the ground with his agendas. Thank you.
