Not that its a surprise, the UK has based its fortune on maintaining the status quo with the US Dollar as the oil standard currency.

UK 'not ready' for euro

Chancellor Gordon Brown has concluded the UK is not yet ready to join the euro, the BBC has learnt.

Prime Minister Tony Blair has accepted the chancellor's view, though the finer details of an official announcement - which could come as soon as next week - are still being worked on.

Recession-hit Germany faces 90bn shortfall
By Malcolm Moore (Filed: 16/05/2003)

The German economy was hit by two more heavy blows yesterday, with data showing that it had officially fallen into recession for the second time in two years swiftly followed by the revelation of a Eu126 billion (90 billion) tax shortfall over the next four years.

Hans Eichel: 'We are still living beyond our means'
The bad news from Germany was echoed around the euro zone, with data showing that economic growth in the European Union has ground to a halt. Germany's gross domestic product surprised economists by shrinking 0.2pc.

I really can't think of a better time or a more simular time when germany may be at risk of becomeing an aggressive or rogue nation. The economic's world round are falling apart from the inflation of worthless INFLATION! As history has proven it will be back/repeat,
so expect nothing but the worst. Already we have our own nation among others fighting blindly over absolutely
NOTHING! Because thats what their money is worth.

GO GOLD STANDARD!...nah

GO GOLD STANDARD!... Posted by ADVISOR

Well, thats the problem: The gold standard has been totally bastardized over the last 50+ years, and is worth exactly what you mentioned that most currencies are worth: NOTHING.

Hence, the interest in the US to keep the Oil Standard Currency (the only hard asset standard left) with the US Dollar, rather than the Euro.

We have, at least temporarily, accomplished this, which is likely why Europe is hurting so economically (they had seriously banked on OPEC going to the Euro as an oil standard.)

I honestly hope no one based their currency on oil, because not too long from now oil will be harder to get(not to mention gone!). Harder than it is now that we go to war for it, simply because our money isnt worth anything, hence our largest asset our Military. I could be wrong but what do we spend most of our money on, taxes only go so far. The U.S. has invested more money into its military than anything else EVER. Besides who really needs crude oil when we have natural and artifical oil? and thats less toxic to animals and plants when it spills since its all natural. Oil is out, I still prefur finding uses for what we have, instead of exploiting others.

Actually, as long as oil is still necessary its not a bad idea to base money on it, Even fossil fuels aren't being used to their full potential. Fossil Fuels have the potential to still be a super power. (literally)

If your talking about refineing it and createing some crazy octane sure. But we could do the same in a non pollutant fashion. HEY WILLIAM! got another debate for you to set up. LoL

hydroelectric power is the new power. or will be soon
it's obvious. i think anyway. it'll bring us back to the seas that's for sure

There arent enough rivers or a high enough level of efficiency in existing dams to make hydro power the dominant power source. We could dam all the rivers out there but im sure the greens would revolt...

i didn't learn jackcrap about the constitution last year in american history and even then it was only when it was signed and a few ppl who signed it. very few americans have read it. even fewer understand it. if we do set up a militia, we must use the constitution as our doctrine. we must move fast to expose the imperialism that america is launching. i know i'm young, but that only gives me more freedom. people don;t notice kids. i mean, in a crowd. there are a bunch of ways a kid looks like so even if they're after me i could dissappear. err i got off track. anyway, we convince the people that our gov't is screwing us over. we must do something about the current poergobbling administration, no matter what. i will quote malcom X:

BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY!!!

P-C, please excuse this older fella who's been out of school for over 20 years, but are you saying you learned squat about the constitution and the Founding Fathers? From what state do you hail?

I know you're going to think I'm dragging politics into this, but I'm not. This is the result of "liberal" agendas; they've been driving to dumb us down. I say this isn't political because I believe that the difference between liberal politicians and conservative politicians is the climate of the country. We had 8 years of liberalism at the wheel and the nation was choking on it. We now have a "conservative" executive and legislative government, yet you don't see things being set straight. Sure, it looks good in a way, sure Bush has handled the war on terror in a manner that is to my thoughts, but how about setting the nation back on a course IAW the Founding Fathers? It won't happen. If the shrub makes the mistake of attempting that, he'll get a lead projectile wake-up call like Reagan did, although he might not be fortunate enough to survive the alarm as Reagan was.

Ever wondered if maybe Reagan's Alsheimer's is a bit more than natural? I think he could have told us alot had he been able to write all his knowledge down and into a book. Better than killing him to silence him, he may have been mentally silenced.

Mind you, that is just my thoughts based upon nothing but paranoia, but if I weren't paranoid, would I be here?

We have already developed about 80% of the rivers and other water bodies where hydroelectric would be a viable energy source. Some have been avoided due to environmental reasons, but I still seriously doubt that we are going to power the rest of the country off of the remaining 20% of hydroelectric we havent developed yet.

i have started to think that the reason i'm not learning much about american history. it's because i'm in global studies. my mistake. i've done a lot of research on my own. my school is indian river high in NY and it's pretty good. except it blows.

PC,

I am very much of the opinion that modern schools largely do a disservice to thier students, especially in higher education.

I ponder if it is an intentional dumbing down of the population to allow easier manipulation.

Btw, I havn't heard from anyone about the radio transmissions. I wonder if ham radio is secure enough, perhaps we can convince some truckers to act as relay.
[Edited on 9-5-2003 by ADVISOR]

Ham radio is far from secure. I've been licensed for about 5 years now. While we work under the FCC regulations, there are no restrictions as to buying the transmitters and receivers and various other countries have different laws regulating it. We can only legally communicate with counties that are allowed by the FCC however, some abuse the system like any other system. Amateur operators utilize various equipment to track illegal users of frequencies and report them to the FCC. Thats about as much as can be done. They even make a game out of this practice called Fox Hunting.

As for truckers relaying anything, lotsa luck. Most of them have no idea how to do anything except swear and most only have radios that get 6 to 7 miles at the most. 4 watts is the legal limit for CB (27Mhz) radio but some do "illegally" put in base stations that can reach worldwide. Since the inception of cellular phones in the US , this is mostly limited to 3rd world countries. Only die hard CBers still do it and there's damn few of them left.

wow man, i've missed a LOT. anyhow. i don't think opecs influence on us will matter much longer. ya see they've been trying to work us in between a rock and a hard place with the whole dollar to euro switch they've been pondering. they thought it'd get us on the leash, unfortunately, we refused to allow that to happen. ya! i'm not a bitch !! lol. right now we have to do more waiting. oh well.

i think this whole EU Nation idea is going to make things interesting, say germany gets mad at egypt, all of europe will be dragged into it. and england doesn't wnat in? that doesn't look good either. the popularity thing is goin to be a big issue, will the people like it? maybe not maybe so. it's very tricky

They're purposefully crashing the US economy. Bush said in his mose recent State of the Union speech- he's adding more programs and cutting more taxes. He's getting the nation into further debt. I have three theories, although I'm not a lawyer and I don't know much about finance. One is that Bush is getting the US into debt to the Federal Reserve Bank so that they can issue a lien on the US and become its new government. The other theory is that he's purposefully making another great depression in the economy so that he can pass whatever socialist bills that he wants in order to enslave America (make it communist maybe). The third is that the NWO people want America to concentrate on a crashed economy and be too busy trying to survive to care about a future war on yet another NWO-resisting country.

They always crash the market, thats how the money is made. Just look at todays DOW

Name Last Change % Chg
Dow 9,200.75 +21.22 +0.23%

I havn't seen it that high in awhile, I was kind of hopeing it would drop below 7000 again. Just so I could buy up some choice cuts.

I firmly believe "they"(lets use that word for lack of a better one), have been planning on running out of resources such as oil. Why else would they milk it for everything its worth. With the new hybrid vehicles on the market, it's almost obvious.

I agree with ADVISOR, if you look around at everything you'll find that everything you look at is owned by someone, even the things you don't see. The Stock market is controlled by the Aristracacy (proably misspelled) and then in turn control us.

A vicious circle in a Darwanistic world.
