Ahmed Chalabi, and his nephew, Salem, head of the Iraqi war crimes tribunal, have been charged with crimes by the Iraqi Criminal Court. Ahmed once the favorite of the US, was charged with counterfeiting, while Salem was alleged to be involved with the murder of the Iraqi Finance Minister on the 28th of May this year.
Both vowed to fight the charges, Ahmed is reported to be in Iran, while Salem is also out of the country.

Salem Chalabi, the head of Iraq's war-crimes tribunal, yesterday denounced legal charges brought against him and his uncle, Ahmed Chalabi, and warned that the accusations could undermine the prosecution of Saddam Hussein.
Both Chalabis vowed to return to Iraq to fight the charges, but Salem Chalabi said he needed security guarantees because his role overseeing Saddam's trial made him fear for his life.

This brings further doubt to the US support of Chalabi leading up to the war on Iraq, and only complicates the efforts to calm the situation in the nation. I only hope that the Arab nations can agree on providing troops to secure the country, so our soldiers can come home.
