Regarding New York... I would like to see a poll of those folks who actually live outside of the NYC metro area on this subject.

In New York, the Siena Poll showed that 59 percent of union households and 59 percent of Catholics in New York supported marriage equality—crucial voting blocks. To some extent, the politicians were following the people.

Source

The Siena New York Poll is a monthly snapshot poll of at least 800 registered voters from throughout New York State on current political issues.

Siena Poll

“The more New Yorkers learn about marriage equality, the more they support this basic issue of fairness,” said Brian Ellner, the Human Rights Campaign’s senior strategist for the Campaign for New York Marriage.
...
Interestingly, the poll found more support for same-sex marriage in upstate and in the New York City suburbs than in New York City.

Source

It's fairness. You either support equal treatment under the law or you don't. It's that simple.

Let's make Gullible a new protected class with a new set of rights.

Sorry, gullible people already have equal rights!

And to celebrate...

GO New York! Woo-Hoo!

Have to applaud after all there's nothing wrong with gay marriage as long as both parties are consenting adults

Maybe now they will make it legal for me to marry my sister.

And then all your dreams will finally come true!
Just kidding!

Seriously, how is a gay person marrying another gay person affecting your life? It isn't and I don't know how many times I've read on various message boards and on talk radio - "Soon they'll be passing laws to marry siblings, kids, animals, etc." Do you realize how offensive that is to a gay person? I'm sure you don't care but I'm guessing a gay person would find it pretty offensive!

I can't wait for the day when all 50 states legalize this so we can move forward. It's not something our country should even be debating at this point, it's ridiculous.

Yeah, i don't understand the argument 'if you let gays marry next it will be incest and animals".

How is allowing me and my partner full and equal rights under the law anything like incest or bestiality?

It's insulting.

Ya it is extremely insulting, and they seem to not even see it and think it is socially acceptable to say that, even funny to do so.

It seems that all the anti-anything's tend to do exactly what they are preaching against. Catholic church says to be good to people, then rapes little boys and lies about it, the Evangelical Christian leader Ted Haggard that is the leader of the anti-gay agenda was caught having sex with male prostitutes in a hotel smoking meth...

I question why you people are SOO ANTI-GAY, could it really be something else hidden inside you that you are too afraid to admit to due to social stigmas? I think that is a very real possibility, especially in this thread.

Wonderful news! It will take the rest of the country time to catch up as the religious fanatics & homophobic generations continue to dwindle and die off (figuratively, as well as literally) Someday in our future, all Americans, regardless of sexual orientation, will have the right to sign that little document that signifies a pair's commitment to one another, and affords them the legal luxuries the rest of us have. Call it marriage, call it a civil union, the perks are the same, and the gay community deserves them just as much as the rest of us do.

I will be surprised if my state allows gay marriage any time soon, but if they do, I'd give anything to see my mothers-in-law have the same legal rights as spouses as my husband and I have. It is neither fair nor ethical to deny gays the right to be legal spouses. All of these legal perks such as being allowed on a spouse's insurance, being at the bedside at death, none of these are inherently special for any specific group of people alone, they're fundamental American rights for all of us.

And for those whom screech about gays raising children, my husband and 2 brothers-in-law are good examples of how being raised in a gay household does not lead to gay offspring. All 3 are straight married men, and have no desire to be anything otherwise. The argument that is it a detrimental environment is flawed, a loving home doesn't breed social degenerates. A hateful home does.

good... now either the 'wife' or the 'head' of the household can now sue for divorce, just like the rest of us.

Gay marriages should logically follow the different stages of development &/or decompression
as the man-woman model and have the same 7 year itch phase...

i await the 50th Anniversary of a Gay marraige on facebook

This is what you are saying

"they are mentally less capable than me, because they are not like me"

And your "abuse" logic is laughable, 80% of all statistics are made up on spot.

Being gay is just as natural as being straight, the fact that people are gay at all means it is natural... You can keep telling yourself whatever crap that makes you think it is unnatural, but if you find 2 men together somewhere, that means it is natural...

Not to mention animals are gay, ive watched male cats hump other male cats

I have seen a black widow spider kill and eat another one. I have seen animals eat crap. Should humans eat crap and kill as well, just because animals do it?

Your argument is void and off topic. stop derailing. and humans have eaten crap before in the history of people, so yes that would make it natural. im not saying it is right in anyway, but it happens making it natural.if you honestly think you are right in your head, then i honestly do not know what happened to you when you were a little boy, but it must of been hard to live with

it is not void and not off topic. You are derailing. I stated that homosexuality is not natural it is a mental illness. You said it was natural because animals did it. Well animals kill and eat their own. Does that mean humans should kill and eat their own? You are using animals as an example for homosexuality. It is not off topic, and is extremely relevant.

See just because animals and humans have done homosexuality in the past does not make it right or natural in anyway.

From your oh, so unbiased source:

Special rights, also called special privileges, are privileges extended to a particular special-interest group but denied to the majority. Examples of special rights include same-sex "marriage"[1] and the repeal of Don't ask, don't tell[2].

First of all, they call marriage a "special right" saying it's not extended to the majority... WTH? Marriage has been available to the majority all along.

Straight people have HAD special rights!

According to the above definition of special rights, MARRIAGE is a special right, extended to a particular special-interest group (straight people) but denied to the minority (gay people). So it's OK to extend special rights to the majority, and deny these rights to the minority, but it's not OK to extend them to everyone equally?

Have you READ the Constitution? Do you have any respect at all for the founding ideals of this country? Where's your patriotism? Your support for liberty and freedom of the individual?

I'm afraid your true colors are showing... You're pushing an anti-gay agenda and it's no longer popular. The freedom agenda is becoming more and more popular and I am happy to see it!

I mean no disrespect mate...but seriously how can you call yourself a “friend” to gay people and then try to deny them the right to have children?

Are you sure you are actually friends with them? Or do they just tolerate you because they are too nice argue with you. I know that if I was gay and someone said that to me, I would be very insulted!

There are so many kids in need out there, and I can’t see how living in foster care or with an abusive heterosexual parent can possibly be worse than living with a same-sex couple who can provide a child with a stabile, loving, and respectful home.

Who care if the child ends up thinking same-sex marriage is normal? Imho, that will go a long way to promoting equality and tolerance in the years to come.

I promise I don't want to stone you! I'm from Canada too
I just don't know why you would have a problem with a same-sex couple providing a child in need with a good home.

Thank You! BH. I will take a closer look at the polls. Which brings me to an interesting article that clearly illustrates how what is deemed the gay agenda is working slowly over time.

A CNN poll this month found that a narrow majority of Americans supported same-sex marriage — the first poll to find majority support. Other poll results did not go that far, but still, on average, showed that support for gay marriage had risen to 45 percent or more (with the rest either opposed or undecided).

That’s a big change from 1996, when Congress passed the Defense of Marriage Act. At that time, only 25 percent of Americans said that gay and lesbian couples should have the right to marry, according to an average of national polls.

The more important turning points in public opinion, however, may be occurring at the state level, especially if states continue to control who can get married.

This part is very interesting as it relates to the massive generation gap and a young and easily influenced group who has been subject to the Entertainment industry's tactics for years. I I don't fit the mold. (Surprise)
The numbers will continue to favor the cause as the older and more traditional population either dies off or decides to throw in the towel on the issue. Mission accomplished

This trend will continue. Nationally, a majority of people under age 30 support same-sex marriage. And this is not because of overwhelming majorities found in more liberal states that skew the national picture: our research shows that a majority of young people in almost every state support it. As new voters come of age, and as their older counterparts exit the voting pool, it’s likely that support will increase, pushing more states over the halfway mark.

Again, I am all for legal unions and spousal benefits. I am opposed to the apparent need to legally redefine marriage via mandates. Our nation and its foundation is slowly being turned inside out while it is being shaken to the core. Shake it long enough and it begins to crack and subsequently crumble. That is not what I want for my children.

If it is going to be allowed, I certainly don't think any church or group should be forced to marry gays if it is against their beliefs.

All in all, while I would be for civil unions, I simply cannot abide the use of the word marriage. This is yet another example of the narcissism or our modern western society, where we can have whatever we want and delude ourselves as to the nature of reality. Changing the very meanings of words, mutilation of genitalia in order to identify with one sex or another, fathers as mothers, mothers as fathers, it's no wonder kids are so screwed up today not knowing witch end is up.

Let me just be clear, I am no homophobe and have no problem with gays, with them living together, with them having commitment ceremonies and partnership rights recognized by the state. But all in all, I think this is a bad day for society, and another win for the NWO.

In fact, communists and Marxists use tactics like this to destroy the fabric of society and the safety of the family unit. It is classic. Anyone can read the Communist Manifesto and see the disregard for the nuclear family, and the attempt at replacing the family with the State. The State is now the parent of the child. We see the State control over the family more and more all the time. The current Prez is also on board with more Statist control of the family, as it was so obvious at the Saddleback forum, when he suggested that parents abusing their kids was his biggest beef. What he really means is the State is all-Supreme and the parents are the bad guys. It's typical Marxist ideology.

Thanks to the activism in school education, our children's family mores are being designed by anarchists and socialists. Social engineering is more important to educators today than is teaching genuine math, science, and language.

You can't redefine something for which each person has their own definition. I bet you a million dollars that MY definition of my marriage is VASTLY different than yours. There is no one definition of marriage. I define mine and you define yours. Everyone should have that same right.

Our nation and its foundation is slowly being turned inside out while it is being shaken to the core.

This may be true, but it's not being destroyed by young people who are for equal treatment of everyone. It's not being destroyed by young people who are more accepting, loving and understanding of various cultures and people who are different than them. It's being destroyed by old people who are bigoted, stuck in their ways and want to use the legal system to make everyone behave in a manner that suits them and their oppressive religion. It's being destroyed by racism, bigotry, closed-mindedness, bitterness, hatred, oppression, greed and politics.

Not by gay people, as you are so willing to believe...

Unless you are not involved in the health sciences like me you need to provide medical proof of it. Homosexuality was removed from the DSM-IV only because of political reasons; the chief was gay. It was not because of medical reasons.

Why is it that homosexuality is not genetically passed down, whereas other traits are? Yes it is because it is a mental disorder.
