i’m fairly new and still puzzled about the rating system each member receives.

in a recent post of mine i mentioned this and by the answers i asses, most would be puzzled. specially the W and K rating.

here a link to some explanations – but thoroughly inadequate

www.abovetopsecret.com...

sometimes i see values e.g. S 36’000odd and K minus 40

then this : S 206 W 4 K 5100 (this is the amazing score of sehren6 aka hussein with a message)

is it of success or not to have a high karma rating on ATS ?

can someone explain please ?

If you have a high W rating it is basically because you start quality threads and your "Flag to Thread" ratio is high..

on the other hand ...

A high K rating is the result of a high "Star to Post" ratio with a negligable modifier being flags earned.

in other words ..

if you have a high K rating and a low W rating it is because even though you dont start alot of threads, people seem to enjoy or agree with what you are writing and are giving you stars..

that pretty much sums it up in laymans terms..

now im sure other people will jump in with alot of math and a bunch of numbers..

so it's good karma then !

i also noticed, that this my 'new thread' did not appear in new threads. is it because of the forum i placed it in ? or a glitch? where did you 2 pick up this thread ?

I saw that! Karma over 5,000 with one post. Crazy. Nuts. Can't believe people are still posting on that one hit wonder.

It is possible to have stars and flags out the kazoo yet not register any posts. With no posts then no Karma. You must register one post at least in order to earn big K scores. I took an interest awhile back in the points systems here and discovered there are some tricks to producing high scores. Apparently someone is taking advantage of a certain loophole to produce an incredible K score.

Your K scord does not show up on your Profile page and your ATS points do not show up on your mini-profile next to your posts. Not sure any of these points systems counts for a hill of beans for anything but they do make good incentive and measure of certain abilities if someone, like myself, is using ATS for self-improvement as a blogger, writer, PR person, author, journalist, whatever they are trying to teach themselves. ATS does have a lot of opportunity for honing skills or learning BB functions and subleties.

I like watching ATS points because people can be fined points and there are a number of popular contributers that have accumulated high points in other areas but have negative ATS points. Others have very high ATS points - SO is coming close to hitting 2 million ATS points soon. Not sure if they still have such a use but I read that ATS points in the past could be redeemed for certain services or privileges.

Points are just another ATS feature that you can use, watch, have fun with, or ignore as you choose. That is just like any other ATS function or feature, certain forums that some people love and others never visit. There is no "one way" to enjoy ATS. It is large and varied enough it has something for just about everyone.

No, that's what everyone thinks but look at my "W" rating and the few threads/flags I have..

I'm baffled about the "W" score.

you also have alot more stars AND posts than most people., which i forgot to mention is a another facter in Wats rating as far as i have seen..

to put it another way...

flags dont seem to effect karma as much as stars effect wats..

at least that has been my observation..

but what do i know?

Im just a meathead...

If you have a high Karma rating, one of two things happened:

You actually paid to join this site or you're a chemtrail debunker...

I believe in chemtrails...

So by your reasoning and high "K" rating, I must assume you paid to join..

Karma, i believe, deals with how often you flag//post others. Before this sytsem, they tracked "Flag Contribution Level". It is a way to encourage you to flag/star so that the site feedback system works.

WATS is affected by flags and posts you receive. Like Backinblack, i don't start many threads. But my WATS is high because of my stars.

K is for what you give, W is for what you receive.

Although I love Meathead, I believe he is incorrect in this one.

ETA: Last night i ended up getting 0 flags, and 4 stars. When i went to bed my W was 64, this morning it is 65. I must have gotten just enough stars to push me over the limit to the next W number.

Thus, it seems that you can get another W for another 200 stars, if my recent tracking is accurate.

Maybe but I think you missed a zero or I should have a "W" of 1670..

Could be a wats for every 1000 stars..
I still don't know.
