First real post, so excuse the sloppiness... Looks like we get to have a near Earth rock swing by on Monday the 27th for some of you astronomers to look at.

ASTEROID FLYBY: Newly-discovered asteroid 2011 MD will pass only 12,000 kilometers (7,500 miles) above Earth's surface on Monday June 27 at about 9:30 a.m. EDT. NASA analysts say there is no chance the space rock will strike Earth. Nevertheless, the encounter is so close that Earth's gravity will sharply alter the asteroid's trajectory:

It's not going to hit us, so they say, but it should come close enough for a good look by those interested... if you happen to be in Antarctica.

Its a shame i wont get to see it

Even if it were to be headed straight for us at only 20m (maximum size) it would evaporate in our atmosphere.

Wouldnt mind this, as long as it took out Lindsey Lohan's news briefs in a meteor fire...

'Virtual impactor' is different than what the TV news is saying. They say it'll be 7,500 miles away. That's close but not a hit. Of course, one little miscalculation and POOF!! Someone has a very bad day. (or a good one if they are looking forward to getting off this rock). Anyways, two different stories are being reported on this. Guess we'll all know by lunchtime on Monday what is going on ...
