US won't keep up aid to Pakistan without change: Clinton

www.dawn.com

WASHINGTON: The United States is not prepared to continue the same levels of military aid to Pakistan unless it sees some changes in the relationship, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Thursday.

“When it comes to our military aid, we are not prepared to continue providing that at the pace we were providing it unless and until we see some steps taken,” Clinton told a Senate committee.

What does she mean by change do you think? As in, let the US have control over your nuclear arsenal? Lets the US/CIA do whatever we want in your country?

The article later says that the US gave Pakistan around 3 billion over the past couple years... is Pakistan going to go with the US just to make sure they receive the aid money?! Are they willing to trade their soverignty over for a couple billion? oh, and don't forget the drone strikes... thats like a bonus right?!

Thoughts?!

If only what she said were true. *Sigh.*

Cut the aid. Cut it all. Ron Paul style. Pakistan is NOT our friend. We waste too much money on 'aid' to that country. Hell ... to all the countries. Cut it all. Let individual charities and churches provide 'aid'. The people of those countries that need it would probably actually get more of it and the US tax payer wouldn't be so over burdened.

That's why we should cut foreign aid not just Pakistan but around the world.

Pakistan is caught between two worlds. You have the large population of urban/city dwellers who feel a closer connection with the modern Western world. Then you have large rural/agricultural communities with strong traditional tribal family ties with those who appose anything to do with the West.

This is one reason why Pakistan has been playing both sides of the fence even though they and their citizens have been the victims of not just Drone strikes by the West but also have been dealing with a massive internal struggle of executions of Government officials and random bombings by certain religious leaning groups.

Couple this with their constant turning of a blind eye towards certain groups which operated from within their borders and the Pakistani ISI contribution to the fun and mayhem it really does make for one hell of a convoluted mess.

Cutting 'Drone Attacks' Likewise the 'CIA Bases' we have throughout Pakistan?

She can say they will 'Halt' all aid to Pakistan, though actions speak louder then words, and we all know how Governments Act

I think its more along the lines of quit tipping of al queida so they can escape. The US has apparenlty done a few "tests" with the Pakistani ISI and their government. Information was provided to them, and the US tracked that info as it was sent to various people who then tipped off Al Queida.

What is the aid given used for? Chances are it is used to by US military hardware from contractors. Wouldn't it be considered arming your enemies? Why give Pakistan of all countries the ability to have more weapons? Does this make sense to anyone?
