Italy broke ranks with Nato yesterday and demanded an urgent halt to hostilities in Libya. Franco Frattini, the foreign minister in Rome, called for an 'immediate suspension' of military operations to allow humanitarian aid to be brought to the wartorn country. He also said military leaders should provide more details about Nato bombing raids following mistakes which led to civilians being killed. His demand for a ceasefire echoed comments by Arab League Chairman Amr Moussa on Tuesday

Concerns about the credibility of the mission increased after a Nato missile apparently misfired on Sunday striking a residential area and killing nine people, including two young children.

We now know that this so called humanitarian intervention in Libya is full of B.S. Humanitarian intervention or support shouldn’t be using depleted uranium to bomb the civilians in Libya. Humanitarian should be more about providing food and medical care assistance not depleted uranium bombs. So far 13 Libyan civilians killed in latest NATO assault; 856 civilians killed in all.
It is better that NATO is falling apart, since NATO is more of a war machine than peaceful force to help safeguard the country and build the country instead of bombing it to smithereens. The only reason NATO is still intact is all the wars created to keep its members to participate in NATO’s disgusting killing of innocent civilians. May the day come to bring this criminal organization to justice?

That's why USA should leave NATO because we had to foot the bill for it and let rest of the world spend it in their own welfare. That's why other countries need to man up.

Let us hope that these forces see sense.

I think there is too much to be gained for n.a.t.o for them to stop now though, they will just carry on and wreck the place, so they can then rebuild it and make money from that also, utter scum.

I hope when all this stupidness everywhere is over that the people making the decisions are bought too book , we need to stop this everywhere now.

We need to bring back the basics of all government, which should be by the people and for the people, no more of this political b/s, no more murder in the names of our citizens from each country that follows blindly.

Yet Obama said it's not a hostility issue. Clearly Italians think it is. Why shouldn't we? Right, because it's not a hostility issue if there are no ground troops. The drones are not people, but that's the equivalent of starting a war with robots (like iRobot) and saying that nobody is dying so it's ok.

why should anyone care what Italy has to say on the subject?

Well that is great news, at least someone may be starting to think straight for once. The other NATO members should follow suit, and if not, if Russia or the USA nukes the rest of the nato members I would not feel sorry at all. After all the US has changed alliances just with the snap of a finger. We (USA) bombed the crap out of germany once, and it can happen again.

Its called not attacking a country that has not attacked you. Did italy get attacked by libya? No it did not. Are you saying that it is OK to just attack any country? Is it ok to attack anyones place of residence?

Good brave soldiers, but in reality it is their leadership that fails them and the country as usual.
