I'm well aware of how the conflict started, and I don't agree with you one bit. Let's get some facts together to build a picture.

CIA Finance and Organized Rebels

CIA has financed, trained and organized the rebels to cause chaos and cause a regime change for over 2 decades. This is one fact that most are not even aware of, not surprising, but how else do you suppose WAR PROPAGANDA LIES work? Through ignorance:

Colonel Haftar was the leader of the Libyan National Army, a group of counter-revolutionaries supported and trained by the United States and operating in Libya. According to the sources cited in the article, anti-government uprisings in Libya were led by Colonel Haftar from the United States (The Washington Post 26 Mar. 1996; see also CSR 19 Dec. 1996)

The same rebels tried to create chaos and cause a regime change before, but failed, this time the difference is that NATO came to save them (surely they didn't go to Libya to save civilians), rather to save their own pawns.

This conflict started as a proxy war, and the Libyan regime was not responsible for the proxy war, rather US was. When US was failing twice in its attempt to cause regime change in Libya, it took a different route, that route is a stalemate. I don't know what the purpose of this stalemate is, but I argued in another thread that it could be to divide Libya in to different segments like Sudan.

This is just my belief, but there could be other reasons for it. I believe NATO (mainly US) wants this because they know the rebels have no support in Libya, the Libyan regime has brought prosperity to Libya, (free healthcare, free education, ended water shortages through man-made river project, decreased child mortality, created independent banking system away from International Bankster's control, was planning to create a new currency that would benefit Libya and Africa...). So considering what Libyan regime has done for Libya, to what the rebels have done for Libya, the popularity contest will always lean towards the current regime. That's why they didn't want to accept the regime's offer to solve the stalemate through a vote.

The rebels have been controlling Benghazi through terror and torture, many pro regime demonstrators have been massacred, many tortured, black Libyans facing the worst crimes against humanity because of the WAR PROPAGANDA LIES OF MERCENARIES. Many Black Libyans were labelled as Mercenaries and tortured to death, others hanged in public etc..

I know this is going to sound very callous but you don't change policy due to unfortunate accidents in a war. Sometimes things go terribly wrong, innocents die. It's unavoidable in war. As others have stated, Qaddafi started this mess. Would you have rather he slaughtered all the residents of Benghazi like he was about to do? Of course there would have been no cameras or photos of his troops butchering those men, women and children, so there wouldn't have been any outcry.

I fault the NATO strategy, they should have used overwhelming force in a very short period of time and destroyed Qaddafi's ability to field an army. I thought that was one of the major things we learned from the first Gulf War. You quickly take out your enemies forces. We took half a step when we needed to take the full step and take him and his government out. We have drawn this out and now things like this errant bomb happen.
