Is the US now considered a Totalitarian Democracy?

In many ways I believe the US is considered a totalitarian democracy.

For those of you who don't know what a totalitarian democracy is here's a definition

a system of government in which lawfully elected representatives maintain the integrity of a nation state whose citizens, while granted the right to vote, have little or no participation in the decision-making process of the government

In many ways it is true because while we change our leaders like all the time we still can't change the policies that was pushed upon us (For example US adventurism in Libya)

A totalitarian democracy, says Talmon, accepts "exclusive territorial sovereignty" as its right. It retains full power of expropriation and full power of imposition, i.e., the right of control over everything and everyone. Maintenance of such power, in the absence of full support of the citizenry, requires the forceful suppression of any dissenting element except what the government purposely permits or organizes. Liberal democrats, who see political strength as growing from the bottom up (cf: "grass roots"), reject in principle the idea of coercion in shaping political will, but the totalitarian democratic state holds it as an ongoing imperative.

Totalitarian democracy is a contradiction of terms as democracy is usually divided in two or more.

But I get what you're saying, the brainwashed vote in their tyrants and enjoy the totalitarianism, but on the plus side you're living in interesting times.

I would normally consider that an oxymoron, but you do have a persuasive argument. The BIG QUESTION is; what do we do about it?

Yes we have a totalitarian aka democracy, actually America is not a Democracy but rule by republics, but in this days and time we are held by a two ruling parties or classes and they do not allow third parties or oppositions to thrive.

An argument can be made that in some circumstances it is actually the political, economic, and military élite who interpret the general will to suit their own interests.

No CEO's were harmed in the making of this post. Neither were any harmed by any sham "firings". Owebowmao is owned by the corporations/tptb. Now "real" firings" would be permitted. However, the show must go on so the looting can continue.

I don't think so, but it doesn't really matter. It's tyranny, it doesn't matter what name you give it.

I've always considered the government of the US to be an unrepresentative aristocracy. Our elected leaders claim to represent the will of the masses yet they constantly ignore it. When the elected leaders DO hear the will of the masses it's only to respond to their special interests and it's to do what they want to do under the guise of populism... in short what we have is corporatism disguised under populism. It's a shameful thing and I wonder if it is like this elsewhere in the world.

The US is the very definition of fascist: rule by corporation.

It's fascism with elements of illusory Democracy to keep the people happy. The corporations and the government work together to make the people think that they have all these choices, tell the people that we have a free-market, when in reality we have anything but what they say we do.

In order to have a REAL revolution, the US military would also have to revolt since we are sworn to protect the gov. This would actually be the easier part. Im army ranger and you can guarantee theres not a single man in the entire branch that would fire on American civilians. All it would take is that order from way up high "fire at will" and the president would have a class A mutiny =]
