WAR: UK Soldier Dies In Basra Battles

With the continuing confrontations with militiamen who are understood to be loyal to radical Shia cleric Moqtada al-Sadr a British soldier has been killed and a number of other UK troops have been injured. following the latest clashes with insurgents in the Iraqi city of Basra.

Shia militants are patrolling the streets of the southern city and exchanges of fire took place at different locations in and around Basra, also another incident two British Army Land Rovers were destroyed after coming under attack.

The total of 63 British troops have now died in Iraq since the start of hostilities in March 2003 I think this is fairly low number compared to the US casualties. And my thoughts are with his family I'm just glad the my cousin is back home safe and well but there is still every bit of a chance he could be going.

My Wifes brother is in Basra (sp) at the Moment and is frantic with worry, any word on the Regiment involved at all?

Not at the moment I think as soon as they havre found out who it is an told the family more will be known as to who and which Regiment it involved. What we did was put up flags around our house out side and they didn't come down till My cousin came home just to show our surrport for our troops and him.

My Wife put a big Photo in the window with him in his dress Uniform, hes only a Kid for Christ Sake. I think hell be ok his mates are all a lot older than him and have done a lot of operational tours. Im sure hes ok.

Have you tried to contact him via a bluies or online they can send him a message real qwick to find out how he is doing. I'm sure he's ok he'll have good people n friends looking out for him.

I havent mate but i will do now, thanks for that.Hes a level headed lad and im sure his training was the best they could give him and in his last letter to his mum he said that they all look out for each other but you still cant help worrying tho. Cheers

I am afraid this is just worth a "news" because it's about coaltion soldiers. At the same time many more people somewhere on this lonely little planet died as well.

Who cared about them? Anybody remembers the MORE THAN 400 dead people from the shopping mall last week? Ah, what a world.

No offence Shoo but i didnt watch the people in the Mall grow from a 12 year old boy to a 19 year old man so no at the moment those poor people are not in my thoughts right now. And yes it is a crappy world.

Same here shoo someone who I've known for 22 years and is close to me and I agree with Janus there not of my concern I surrport our troops "UK" and I care about them alot.

I really understand this. I wasn't targeting against the article or the comments, it was just what I notice more and more. The value of a single life is measured very very differently "again".
"Again" as I had the feeling, about 10 years ago, that it becomes better.

Somehow a sign of upper and under class in the human race which is defined by the political and economical power of the victims home country.(that's not against the US now! Beliefe me...how I hate those reports here on TV: a plane crashed in XYZ, no germans were injured. case closed. next topic: Breaking news: 3 people dead at accident on freeway 10).

No offence taken Shoo but last night was a little bit fraught. I understand what you are saying i really do but when you think something bad may have happened to someone close to you everything else takes a back seat.
We havent heard anything about him yet so as far as im concerned no news is good news.
Im not imune to the suffering around us, but my concern was for my wifes brother last night. Thankyou for your post tho.
