Life sentences for Bahrain activists
Protesters in Bahrain take to the streets, clashing with police after eight Shia activists are given life sentences.

Bahrain police battle protesters after eight Shia activists accused of plotting a coup to overthrow the Sunni kingdom were sentenced to life in prison.

The court on Wednesday also sentenced other defendants, from among the 21 suspects on trial, to between two and 15 years in jail.

A member of Bahrain's largest Shia group said the sentencing of the activists as contradicting the regime's calls for dialogue.

"Is this the atmosphere for dialogue?" asked Khalil Marzooq , former MP and member of the Islamic National Accord Association (Wefaq) in excerpts of a speech he gave in Manama posted on his Facebook page.

The Bahrain News Agency said the life sentences were issued against a prominent Shia political leader, Hassan Mushaima; activists Abdulhady al-Khawaja, Abduljalil al-Singace and five others.

Nabeel Rajab, president of the Bahrain Centre for Human Rights, told Al Jazeera that many people were unhappy about the sentences.

"Abdulhady al-Khawaja is one of the most respected human rights activist in the whole Arab region, so people are very angry," Rajab said.

"Hundreds of people have been brought up for charges in the past few days, and hundreds more are waiting to be tried."

Maryam al-Khawaja from the Bahrain Center for Human Rights said that Abdulhady al-Khawaja's daughter Zainab, was present in court when he was sentenced and stood up and chanted "Allahu Akbar" (God is Greater).

She was violently removed from court and arrested. She was later released after being charged with contempt of court and made to sign a pledge.

And of course when they say ``overthrow the regime`` it means ``being able to vote to choose our own regime, aka democracy``.

And of course the US and the EU won't say a damn thing since the US has it's 5th fleet there and the whole ``Iran threat`` BS.

DISGUSTING. And I bet none of the western MSM will take this story, nor expose the EU and Obama for the hypocritical scum they are.

No one cares because the media hasn't started any propaganda campaign against a Western stooge King. People were tortured to death in Bahrain, but the Western government was silent, ofcourse, it is right for them to be silent, but attacking another country not far from there in the name of helping civilians against government threats makes them sound not only hypocritical, but mentally ill.

Now US is saying they will send drones and diplomats to help Saleh in Yemen, just like they sent Mercenaries in Bahrain. The same Mercenaries they falsely slapped all across the Libyan regime which was a complete fabricated lie, but the media still refuses to acknowledge fabricated war propaganda lies, because they had a hand in it.
