Funny how police have no problems being filmed on Cops, Police POV, or other similar shows.


Yep, the lady got busted for not following orders, but IMO her filming was the real issue.

Bull crap..... there are definitely still good cops.. That was completely ignorant to state. I am replying to what the both of you posters said. I have had bad and good experiences with cops and I know they aren't all bad. I also know other people who have had both good and bad experiences. The cops are not our enemies, corruption is.

Please try to see the "big" picture ! Our liberties and freedoms curtailed because some cop feels nervous ?
We have to be ordered back into our own houses . . for no other reason than he "says so" ?
Doesn't this strike you as controlling ? Yes it is the cops . . . and it's getting worse.

You're wrong on several levels.

In short, the cop made an unlawful order, and the reason he did that was to get her to stop video taping.

At first, the cop accused her of video taping from the sidewalk, implying she wasn't allowed to do that. He was hoping that like 99% of population would normally do, that she would get scared, stop video taping and go inside. By making that sidewalk statement, he implied that she was on the sidewalk (LIE #1). She clarified that she was on her private property.

The officer, realizing that she was perfectly correct, that it was 100% legal for her to video tape from her own property, he then CHANGED HIS REASON.

The officer now said he felt concerned for HIS SAFETY (switched from sidewalk to safety), and supported that reason with LIE #2 claiming she was standing "behind" them. She was not standing behind anybody, she was standing clearly off to the side, off the street, off the sidewalk, well outside of any reasonable distance the public can be expected to occupy during a public arrest. The officer was trying to frame it as if she was standing next to the car or the curb.

So the officer was fishing for an excuse to get her to stop video taping. He failed with his first sidewalk claim, then switched to a safety claim with a false accusation that she was standing behind them.

The lawyers for the lady will use this against the officer to prove he was out of line and violated her rights as a law abiding citizen. It's not illegal to disobey an unlawful order.

I actually agree with you and I do see the big picture. I just didn't see it as being more than the woman trying to make a point then cried about it when it got real. I do agree with you actually. I don't know, I guess I have mixed feelings and I really hope I am never on a cop's bad side.

For what it's worth, I act out of fear a lot of the time and I need to get more courageous.

in my opinion cops has been nothing but a propaganda tool where they follow there most well behavied officers into well behaived raids and whatnot and they tend to focus on what some would consider the more shady portion of society arresting mostly drunks wife beaters etc crack heads for almost one season as opposed to most of the stuff cops deal with tickets noral non crazy violent things and i think they have shown us the combinations of these things so when we hear a certian person has been arrested we mentaly picture the funny looking crackheads or what were used to seeing on cops so we dont question there actions as well or at least thats my theory

You are not alone. We all need to get more courageous. For all we know, this incident could've been this woman's
first try at being courageous. And yeah, she did begin to lose her composure near the end . . but only because she
knew she was within her rights . . and yet the police were going to take her away anyway. I believe she'll
toughen up if she continues to try to be courageous. Maybe her friends will toughen up and stand up for her next
time.
( I hope the cops involved in this learned that " we're mad as hell and we're not going to take it anymore".)

Police officers face conditions everyday where their lives are in danger. I for one have no problem with them telling this lady to not stand so close to them. She was obviously fishing with a camera to try and capture something. How would you feel if someone followed you around your job with a camera? I sure as hell wouldn't like it.

Thats why you have the freedom to quit your job and find a new one.

Nobody forces people to become police officers. I often hear the argument that "cops face dangerous and terrible situations everyday". So what. That is the job they chose, along with all the risks.

A saying that I don't hear so much anymore is "it takes a special kind of person to be a cop". What ever happened to the person who understands those risks, but is honestly there to help his fellow citizens, and not have the "us verse them" mentality. It does take a special kind of person to be a cop nowadays, but not even close to the way things used to be. Nowadays sociopathic behaviors and inferiority complex seem to be the characteristics for LEOs.

If the cop does not want to be filmed, he needs to change careers, plain and simple.

I too hate it when I'm in a grocery / department store and they have those pesky cameras just fishing, trying to catch me doing something wrong like stealing or something stupid like that. Don't they know I'm just shopping? Nevermind the fact that there seems to be a CCTV camera on every corner just waiting for me to do something wrong. Man it just pee's me right off. Then I go to work (a casino) and EVERY where I go and everything I do is recorded by camera. I literally have someone following me around with a camera everywhere I go when I do my job, and I don't even have any power to abuse.

Put yourself in that uniform if you have the ability to empathise for the length of this text...

Your coming to the end of a long shift, you might still even be a rookie & have many thoughts still surfacing in your mind from earlier encounters with the public on duty... your feel a little insecure about the arrest you are about to make... you know in you mind you are in no real danger, you have you partner with you and the station is probably only about a mile down the road from where you are.. it's been a long day, all you can really think about as you approach the suspect is wanting to get out of the unfamiliar neighbourhood..but anyway your mind nervously goes through all the protocols for dealing with a suspect as beneath you are still unsure about how to approach every encounter with the public in your new uniform. From Day 1 your identity underwent a dramatic shift according to societal prejudices of police. Suddenly in the shadows you spot a red dot coming from what appears to be a camera floating on the side-walk...its a woman filming you... you ask why and are immediately met with a passive aggressive tone & this really grinds your gears, not as a police officer upholding the constitution but as just another guy born and raised in the American dream land trying to do his job without being harassed by someone who's sole intent in that moment is to release pent up frustrations against the establishment by ungraciously sticking all that emotional-baggage to you! Really what's happening is a symbol is being attacked, & you may even know this, but gradually it is a symbol you have become fond of so take this personally and get perhaps too emotionally involved with the dispute... it soon descends into an adolescent hormonal back and forth as her grip on reality weakens faced with the human beneath your uniform something she wasn't prepared for... So you think to yourself .. You know what, she's not following my simple requests she was rude from the moment i asked her what she was doing (creeping in the shadows behind a camera) & has shown an extreme lack of sympathy respect for the job I do day after day, so why not give her a taste of what my reality is like by taking her back to the station in hand-cuffs & tears because oh yea she wasn't prepared for a cold reaction to her cold hearted attitude. & ultimately though controversial you felt it has been for the best...

Case in point, she placed perhaps years of anti-authoritarian baggage on a young cops tired shoulders, but he was more human than she wanted to know so he took her down town Cold... but in my considered opinion .. a kind of karmic justice.

Enough of all this crap about injustice & police brutality.. this is almost a petty as a domestic dispute, no one was injured no one was traumatised or shocked.. this is Nothing, childish to talk about in fact, even more childish to be casting all kinds of wild aspersions about the moral fibre of the police officer who we know nothing about beyond the video evidence. Morally I'm a realist who recognises daily those individuals who can't face their own reality, which in many fascinating ways is often fed back to them in loops, feedback loops of projected frustrations failed to have been processed or understood.. & to those who so self-righteously declared they would INTENTLY provoke similar conflict with the long weary arm of the law, i suggest you find a big bucket, fill it with water plunge your head into it 5 times and humbly reconsider your reaction to these mere symbols... better to change an establishment graciously than to oppose it directly ... it just escalated conflicts beyond reparation... have your ideal firmly in you mind when you engage in moral disputes otherwise you'll get humiliated and worse might ended up crying in a police cell because of your immaturity.. So what do i mean by Graciously? BE CIVILISED about it.. recognise a senseless argument will achieve nothing & its sole purpose is merely for you to vent frustration, whereas actual progressive conversation occurs when you imply in your tone a level of decency and respect for the human you are talking to about the idea, & not the idea you are talking about because of an [ignorant] human!!

I don't think the Cop will fare well in court. One because the woman didn't do anything wrong and

two, it appears the Cop may have manipulated his report a little bit. not good on his part.

Seriously,

People are going to snap soon and there will be a LOT of dead cops in the streets.

Yeah. Problem is that there is no law against "vendetta gainst police". Another case where a person who is not committing a crime can be arrested with "arrest anyone" charges. This will be a fun lawsuit thought. She has a good lawyer and tons of backup.

The scenario you describe depicts a person who is unfit emotionally to be entrusted with police powers.

If you can't control your own mind and allow your imaginings to overtake realities, you aren't emotionally mature enough for the job.

No excuses or exceptions are possibly acceptable.

Ahh its starting to make a bit more sense now thanks to anon72's link.

The police report of the arrest contains another apparent discrepancy from what appears on the video: Masic writes that the traffic stop targeted three individuals who "were all chalkem south gang members."

"This gang is known for drugs guns and violence," Masic notes, underscoring the danger of the situation.

The video, while dark, appears to only show one man led out of the car. Good's public defender says that as far as she has been able to determine, only one man was pulled over.

I would hazzard a guess that they didnt have any real reason to pull the guy over in the car, especially as he had done nothing illegal had nothing illegal on him so they had to let him go. Thats why they had to make up some BS about there being 3 guys in the car who looked like gang members.
