Art or Vandalism ATS ?

A public monument to the Soviet Armed Forces in Sofia, Bulgaria was vandalized spectacularly over the weekend. The statues of the Second World War soldiers were painted to resemble such candy-colored figures of capitalist iconography
Gawker.com[source]

looking at this from a guerilla artist
point of view, I think its great !

The Sofia echo[source]

I guess what appeals so
much to me, is taking something
that has/had such a strong sentiment
and twist it to something equally as strong
and prolific...
its simplicity of
the concept & execution ...
yet it speaks volumes

well maybe Not volumes...but its tongue & cheeky

"in step with the times"

From an American point of view I think it funny. From a military point of view I find it a disgrace.
It is interesting that it is in Bulgaria and yet all American icons. Superman, Robin, Wonder Woman, The Joker, Santa, Captain America, Ronald McDonald, and Wolverine. Who is the Yellow soldier? Most soldiers are not "Yellow". HMMMMM.

I think the idea is that it was a statue to glorify Russian Communism, which eventually became everything it was supposed to be Opposed to...

That to me is the simplicity of concept...

It was a tasteless act of vandalism, in my humble opinion.

Especially since Russia freed Bulgaria after 500 years of Turkish tyranny (Ottoman empire).
