Hard to beat a good gangster movie or a bit of cops n' robbers!!
The list could go on forever though, but those 5 just came to mind. If I was asked tomorrow it could all be different(apart from Goodfellas)

This is my five for today.

I have no particular genre that I prefer, other than authentic and honest movies. Its called independent cinema. No men in suits telling the director what to do.

1. Kikujiro No Natsu - Takeshi Kitano

This beautiful masterpiece tells the story of a little boy that goes looking for his mother. The boy gets accompanied by an ex-yakuza, a strange rude figure (played by Kitano), who gambles away all its money. Finally they take off and hitchhike there, meeting the strangest of people, having the weirdest adventures.

Takeshi Kitano is very famous for his unique, eccentric and honest style, in which he incorporates long still shots and moments of intense action, beautiful music and his passion for art and nature. His movies speak poetry. To see one his movies for the first time is a whole new experience. One may find himself wondering why there is nothing happening. But that is the poetry. Soon you will realize what he is trying to show you.

2. Down by law - Jim Jarmusch

A very great film with Tom Waits, John Lurie and Roberto Benignini. Three different characters end up in prison. They escape and head for the forests.
Another very honest film by Jarmusch. It seems he always wishes to let the moment speak.

3. Castaway on the moon - lee hae-joon

A man named KIM jumps into the dark, quiet waters of the Han River. He wakes up and finds himself lying on strange ground, covered with sand. For a second, he thinks he is in heaven, but soon recognizes that he simply drifted to a nameless island in the river. In one of the riverside apartment buildings, there’s a girl who hasn’t ventured out of her room for years. With her disheveled hair and in the same old clothes she’s worn for years, she looks just like a castaway. Then one day, she catches sight of a man living alone on an island through her binoculars. Day after day, his lonely but seemingly contented life triggers her curiosity and compels her to step out of her room after so many years. KIM’s extraordinary life becomes the inspiration for change in this girl’s lonely, detached life.

4. The Straight Story - David Lynch

Apparently this really happened. A 70 year old WW2 veteran named Calvin Straight, decided upon hearing his estranged brother suffered a stroke to visit him before he might die. He couldn't drive the car, he didn't like the bus and he didn't want anyone to take him. So he took his lawnmower and drove there, 240 miles.
One of the more poetic movies I have seen coming out of the united states.

5. Three Seasons - Tony Buy

One of my favorite films all times. I'll leave the description up to wikipedia this time.

Three Seasons (Vietnamese title: Ba Mùa) is an American Vietnamese language movie filmed in Vietnam about the past, present, and future of Ho Chi Minh City in the early days of New Vietnam. It is a poetic film that tries to paint a picture of the urban culture undergoing westernization. The movie takes place in Ho Chi Minh City, formerly Saigon. As the characters try to come to terms with the invasion of capitalism, neon signs, grand 5-star hotels, and Coca-Cola signs, their paths begin to merge.

This was the first American film to be made in Vietnam after Bill Clinton lifted the embargo. The filmmakers were followed by Vietnamese inspectors throughout filming.

OP my list changes often but here are ones I can watch anytime.


1. The entire Star Wars saga without a doubt. I love when SPIKE TV has their Star Wars days!

2. Signs...I know many did not like this movie. This was the first movie since Freddy Krueger as a kid that really freaked me out. It is funny because I am all about aliens and alien invasion (of the Paul kind of course). I don't know why this movie does this to me but it does. I like to creep myself out sometimes while watching movies so I will watch this. By the end of the movie the lights are all on in my room and hallway and my blinds are closed because the building across the parking lot. I saw an owl one time on top and it freaked me out, it was right after I watched Signs

3. All the Transformers movies. Yes some think that is nuts but I really liked these movies. I went and saw the third one the day it opened by myself. I loved it. I like these movies because I never get bored and I don't look at my watch.

4. Life is Beautiful. When I first saw this I loved it and it was subtitled so I had to read it. I watched that movie two times in a row the first time. They have since dubbed it but I still prefer the Italian version with English subtitles.

5. The Notebook~ This is one of those girly movies that makes me cry every time. The movie is really good and so is the book. I am a hopeless romantic and I loved this movie. What Noah shows is true love and being a sappy girl I love that lol


I have to add one more from when I was a kid and I still love it "Flight of The Navigator." I LOVED that movie!


I'd say my favorite genre would be sci-fi and horror. I love sci-fi and horror, both have equally creeped me out,

I also like romantic comedies but it depends on who is in it.

i would say my favorite genre is also horror, either the make you jump kind or the make your brain feel like it's afraid kind... favorite movies? very difficult to say, changes when i look in my dvd cases of over 1000 titles.. but today i'll say the following, in no particular order:

2. natural born killers www.imdb.com...
3. kung fu hustle www.imdb.com...
4. the crow (may be favorite all time) www.imdb.com...
