I caught the post yesterday called "I have 15 Hours of J-Rod Footage.". The newbie purported to have 15 hours of footage that was held in secret by her brother who was purportedly murdered for divulging the secret base and shooting at Dulce, NM in the 90's.

She could have very well been a kook or college kid starting one of the all too frequent "I have secret info but my life is in danger" threads. But it got me thinking. What if she did indeed have groundbreaking inside proof? If she had to make 20 posts, it would certainly be possible to track her down by IP address. Even if she was in Starbucks or other public access point.

I ask you guys;
1. What is the point of making 20 posts before starting a thread? Why not 5 or 1? Other sites have no requirement.
2 what would you do if you had explosive content that could get you killed such as real footage of aliens at US bases or pix of the demo crew on 911?

Something made me question the rules when the thread was suddenly closed last night. Maybe they got her?

If you had earth shattering information and had to post it, would you really post it here?

As much as I like ATS this is an intellectual video game, not some secret society hell bent on exposing the subversive covert issues in society.
As much as some would like to believe it is. . .

The way things have been lately, it should be 50. And the reason is to encourage new users to discuss ongoing topics and learn the rules before making wild claims. They have waited this long, surely they can wait 20 posts.

I would make a few hard copies of it, and present it to a mod, my local news, and any other news outlets, blog it, facebook that ass, my space it, twit it, youtube it and take out an ad in a paper about it, anything but sign up to a conspiracy forum and expect someone here to take me serious.

Why what would you do?

The rule is to make sure we catch the spammers and pranksters before they get carried away. Each and every time one of these new posters comes in with groundbreaking news, the Mods/Admins/Owners have worked diligently behind the scenes to try and ascertain the validity of the claims. We never just remove them without some discussion and effort. Once in awhile a member posts a new thread in the Intro forum, and it has some decent content and we just move it off to the appropriate forum rather than shutting it down as the TandC allows.

The rules are all about good housekeeping and ensuring a family friendly environment. In a way, this does include catching the "subversives" but not the ones with good intel, just the ones intent on causing chaos and ruckus in our ATS world. I mentioned in some other thread, for me personally, I enforce the rules on ATS the exact same way I enforce the rules at my weekend barbeques!

Most definitely! First, I would make ample back up copies and distribute them to some friends and family, then I would post to ATS and alert the other Mods and my friends list that the info was up. Next I would begin contacting other outlets and referring them to the ATS material. But that's just me. To each their own.

Have you ever been on other forums where this rule is not implemented? There are always new members signing up to make new threads about their porn sites or for advertising other nonsense. This makes it so the spam stays at bay.

this is what they have twitter and facebook for.
20 posts not required there

The rules are there to try to weed out the crap.. You know right away if someone hasn't read the rules or doesn't care about it if they jump straight into making posts.. those people who do so aren't banned, they are informed of the rules .. it's those people who keep breaking them knowingly that get the banhammer, unless of course you did something obviously deserving of an instant ban.

We don't run this site, we're guests here.. we have the privilege of using the site, so we need to follow those rules.. either that or find another forum to haunt.

theres nothing to stop a newb post in announcements or where ever to ask for advice on HOW to publish important info, i belive where ever a good post is it will be given the focus of the members it desirves.

Even this one is turning out okay, in regards to good information.

Your answer to what would you do is enlightening and indicates perhaps a level of naïveté. I worked at a news channel. The security is designed to keep out the kooks from approaching in person.

Assuming you were of the new media generation and knew how to join Facebook or upload videos,
All communication via Internet is filtered 100% to some degree. If you began sharing career shattering information of high level operatives, it would not take long to be located once you were identified as a threat.

Now imagine believing that your uncle was already whacked and how paranoid you would be about being caught.

I guess I am trying to get a list of instructions to whistle blowers who are in their 50s and older on how to circumvent being shot with a ricin coated platinum pellet.

You must pardon my ignorance of Facebook and twitter. I assume if you have few or any friends following you on fb, nobody would ever know what you posted. Am I wrong?

Just saying I would love to see something like the official photos of the Roswell debris field or motion picture footage that is impossible to debunk.

They're must be some old timers ready to kick the bucket who would love to give the finger to their bosses and dump what they've been holding so long as their families aren't harmed.

Where better to dump than ATS?

Please read this message by SkepticOverlord regarding the 20 post rule.

If a new member has some Earth Shattering, Breaking News information that they just cannot wait the required 20 posts which are VERY easy to accumulate, they can always contact staff directly by using the Complaint Form.

What makes you think it would take 20 posts for the gubment to track down someone's IP address?

If they wanted to, they could find out exactly who you are from the moment you create an account here.

i too saw that post and thought a similar idea. i doubt you'll get much support for your common sense statement on ATS, where long-time posters often hold themselves well above others. but they too are mere members and its the owners call that makes the difference. since ATS is a direct-post, mod later site, the possibility of an important post like the one you mention taking place is not going to occur. this reveals a lot about how things are prioritized here and why. almost goes hand-in-hand with musty old posts that linger on for months, pages thick, no end in site.

at the end of the day its tin toy soldiers. looks nice but they don't do anything.

And you can use a MacBook Pro to upload a virus to an invading alien mothership...movies are great aren't they.

But the reality is that any government agency would have to request the IP address of a member. That is a request that could only be fulfilled by one of the owners. Assuming the IP was given, they would have to track down the ISP to figure out who had the IP at that particular time of day. Finding the ISP and the city it originated from is fairly easy, unless of course they are using a mobile connection like I do. My IP resolves to a variety of cities each time I turn it on. Not the same thing as using a proxy, but along the same lines. So mobilizing the Chicago FBI branch would be a little silly given that I am in Ohio. That is, if I was in Ohio at the time. I could have been on the road and a few years ago, I was.

So if someone of "special interest" were to post something that required the alphabet agencies to act, It could take upwards of 72 hours or more depending before they captured this person. Even with everything absolutely expedited and all the cards fell just right, it would take at about 2 hours from the time of posting something until they knew who you were exactly and had a good idea where you were exactly.

Even then, some thing are a matter of best guess in an expedited situation. But movies really are great escapes of fantasy though.

But as was said before, the 20 post rule is to give the staff a chance to weed out the ones that only want to spam, hoax and cause drama. Most are not patient enough to make 20 acceptable posts in order to create a thread. But some are. And the ones that spam their "buy this at this link" garbage are usually alerted by the members and the staff deals with them in short order.

Not sure I see the logic in posting that on ATS, but given there was a good reason to do so I don't believe there is any 20-post rule about starting and Introduction thread or see a reason they would have to post it in General Conspiracies or some such, unless they were wanting to receive stars. I'm sure such and Introduction could get a few flags. We do know there have been Introduction threads started that got traction from the start.

I know one would not receive so many ATS points by posting, but in a life and death situation do they really need their own thread? It is possible if important enough someone could hijack a a currently popular thread by posting their message. Of course they would risk a mod pulling their post with an off-topic warning.

Maybe I just don't get the full gravity of the situation but it seems if it is an urgency to get their word out on ATS there are a couple work-arounds for that 20-post rule.

Some very forward-looking individual could join ATS, make their 20 posts, then they would be ready for that urgency to arise and not have the the pesky 20-post rule in their way.

Otherwise, in the very unlikely event of a hoax being perpetrated I am kind of glad there is that 20-post rule.

Here is a idea....

Why not have a mod or 2 that just handles all the news items and for the newbie that joins. have a link to "Send news to staff " to see if it should be posted. Just saying

I posted in the "welcome" forum a vey interesting thread my first time, not as interesting as that scenario, but the mods moved it to the appropriate forum even though I didn't have 20 posts yet. And that was about a BOOK.
It's not a Nazi regime here , the rule is a security measure.
If someone had that kind of info, and decided to set up an account and blab about it, they have 2 choices;
post it in the new members one that they can, and if it looks legit it'll be taken care of and moved appropriately, or...
PM a mod or ANYONE and ask them to post/link for them.

If this is such a friendly site, then why are so many regulars allowed to attack and denigrate posters for having differing opinions?

Now THAT is great conspiracy theory thinking! After all this is just another genre of writting, media et cetera. It takes a mind willing to question everything and to think outside the conventional box. It's science fiction or it used to be. I'm now discovering that the conspiracies may now be real. What was science fiction has morphed into a horrific comedy of the absurd. But absurdity has a specific beauty, which one can and must appreciate if one is to remain positive. The one thing I dislike about ATS is the censorship. I actually despise censorship of any kind. But then again that is just another form of the Matrix isn't it? Circumvent. Deny authority. Be sovereign unto yourself. Realize that you are ONE with the ALL. Remember. Remember who you really are...a spiritual, magnificent, multidimensional being...a little point of consciousness plugged into all the consciousness there is or ever shall be. I bid you all Peace. Namaste.
