There has been some reporting of the volcano in Chile, but almost nothing of the one in Ethiopia. Also, the volcanos in Iceland are still quite active. All of the active volcanos are causing issues with airline traffic and more.

So, with the exceptions of FoxNews and some talk radio folks there is no counterpart to the MSM that bears enough weight. What I see is an extreme agenda to insulate the current administration from any - and I mean any - 'bad' news. Look at the recent 'Fast and Furious' debacle with the BATF. Intent was to blame US Southern gun dealers, when the reality is that the majority of the Cartel arms come from Central and South American armories. Yes, they are US weapons, but were purchased from the US.government or given to them by the US government and later stolen or sold to the Cartels.

I can't tell you how disgusted I am at seeing the Casey Anthony trial on TV day after day, when there is so much going on that can and should be covered. As one poster stated, 'the frog is cooking'. The reality is that this Nation is not a 'frog'. US citizens are going to jump out of the pot soon and set things straight. When the lies come out, and 'Mr." Weiner saw this first-hand, there will be change.

Things are certainly warming up lately. One can already sense the rising hysteria as news flashes around the globe of unusual and strange events occurring one after the other non-stop. Imagine what its going to be like in 6 months time.
Some people feed off the news that comes to them via the establishisd media while others feed off the hype that they find on sites like ATS and they share the same unsatiable hunger.
So what really is going on?
I have my own answers that came from my own discoveries and they satisfy me because I believe in them but I don't fool myself that anyone else will so why would I speak of them? Who would I be trying to convince? No-one that I can see. All I do see is a lot of gluttonous fools.
One thing I have learnt is that those people who do know the truth never speak of it. At best they might drop a hint to point someone in a certain direction but that is as far as they go because it is up to the individual to find it for themself. For all the talk of serving others as against serving oneself the fact is if you cannot take care of yourself when the real cracks open up you will simply not survive. One individual will always help another individual. One million individuals will always help each other. But one billion hungry fools will always end up eating each other when there is nothing else left.

The 14 Defining
Characteristics Of Fascism
by Dr. Lawrence Britt

Dr. Lawrence Britt has examined the fascist regimes of Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia) and several Latin American regimes. Britt found 14-defining characteristics common to each:

1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism -
Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays. TOP

2. Disdain for
the Recognition of Human Rights -
Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc. TOP

3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats
as a Unifying Cause -
The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc. TOP

4. Supremacy of the Military -
Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized. TOP

5. Rampant Sexism -
The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Divorce, abortion and homosexuality are suppressed and the state is represented as the ultimate guardian of the family institution. TOP

6. Controlled Mass Media -
Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common. TOP

7. Obsession with National Security -
Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses. TOP

8. Religion and Government are Intertwined -
Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions. TOP

9. Corporate Power is Protected -
The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite. TOP

10. Labor Power is Suppressed -
Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed. TOP

11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts -
Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts and letters is openly attacked. TOP

12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment -
Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.

13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption -
Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders. TOP

14. Fraudulent Elections -
Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections. TOP

OK, so did any of that ring a bell. The US is a long long way from Socialist. However, your vision of caring for the "poor" and "huddled masses" does seriously smack of a Socialist mindset.

I lost all faith and trust in mainstream media right around the time of the Royal Wedding. If an event that lame gets coverage for weeks on nearly every news station while there are dozens of other problems that deserve non-stop media coverage such our country being over $14 trillion in debt, unemployment being at an all time high, and taxpayer money being spent to drop bombs and fight wars that don't affect any American citizens, then clearly media outlets are dishonest. They don't care about informing us of world events, instead their purpose is now to distract us from those nearly earth-shattering events with Royal Weddings, Dancing With The Stars highlights, that Weiner guy, and whatever other petty news stories get coverage for days. I find it both pathetic and sad that this country is legitimately turning into a 1984-esque society while the majority of people just sit there and laugh at the keys which are being jingled in front of their stupid faces, distracting us from whatever TPTB don't want us to know about.

One thing I would like to add to this article is that North Korea's "Super EMP weapon" is not nearly as bad as it sounds. In reality all it takes to completely knock out the United States power grid is a 1 megaton nuclear bomb detonated in space above Kansas, because if detonated in space the electrons which cause the EMP have a lot more room to spread out compared to on land.

That first sinkhole photo looks completely unreal, I would be absolutely terrified if those things started popping up in my town.

Thank you for bringing this onto ATS..now we all know that our system as a whole does not care for us as individuals but can we please start to figure out ways to really make some significant change?

If North Korea has that weapon, they should use it against the US.
The rest of the world would be better off.

What a fine example of how little we really have travelled on the evolutionary scale. North Korea compared to the US....yeah, OK.,...you're right....down with all 300 million evil Americans. By all means, they should wipe us all out and spend their fortune doing so. Forget the millions of starving North Koreans, their inability to acquire fresh drinking water, their lack of basic human rights......meh. Never mind. Waste of my breath.

This mentality is exactly why there will NEVER be global peace.

For what the US has done to the rest of the world and their abuse of natural resources it would be a justified act!

BTW 300 million will die if there is a black out? Or will we see Darwinism at its glory days? A black out by a EMP can happen any given moment to the entire world.
Are you prepared for that?

No, it would not justify it... -_-

Out of those 300 million there are a countless number of innocents who have nothing to do with what the US govt is doing to the rest of the world.

This is one of the main reasons I joined ATS. I no longer rely on anything that the main stream media has to report on. They are just more corporate puppets.Just like the governmernt. I actually had no clue what was going on in Nebraska until I read it here. That is rather sad considering how much time I spend on the internet and TV.

What She Said I hardly ever pay attention to the crap thats on the news channels

I have just recent started playing that game. It is a very disturbing game, but i think it brings to light the fact that it could happen, and we should be prepared. I find it funny... 11 days after the nuclear disaster..the game was released, referencing the disaster IN the game. Last i checked it takes many months to code a videogame, and would take some time to add that in. So was it already coded in the game before?

Hi AzureSky, welcome to ATS! Yes, to me that is VERY odd, and how would that even be possible to be so exact you know? It seems for the last 10-15yrs, movies and games seem to be becoming reality and someone on the 'inside' of it all is trying to warn us. Just a thought..

I know someone who works at the Fort Calhoun plant. This is not even close to a Japan event. This was a very minor thing. Way too much hype and fearmongering on this particular point.

This isn't huge, but it's something that's being blacked out. And if I bring it up on other threads, suddenly a few people show up to tell me I'm lying and that it's not happening.

I'm up near yellow stone, and for two weeks straight back in April, we were getting quakes almost every day. My husband would check the USGS map and it would NOT be there. We tried to contact them to ask why they weren't logging these quakes, and we received no answer.

In May we kept smelling a strange chemical, almost sulfuric smell. We are away from the city, and there's no other reason for this to be wafting in the air.

Just the other day, I felt what had to be a 5.0 but it's not on the map. Nothing.

This is an absolutely fantastic thread, star and flag.

For me, exactly what ATS is about. Real news stories and documented strangeness that is completely ignored by mainstream media.

It's interesting to me that the more there is in the news that TPTB don't want you to know about, the more the ante is upped on the scandals going on that MSM are covering instead.

Scandal - Anthony Weiner was talked about for three weeks at an almost frenzy level in all media types and outlets from both sides of the spectrum. Meanwhile, real news was almost exclusively ignored.

Have you seen how little the MSM are covering

1) The debt ceiling discussions
2) The ground war in Libya, Yemen, Pakistan, Syria, Somalia, and many other countries all ignored by MSM
3) The ongoing nuclear meltdown of three reactors in Japan
4) The ongoing threats from flood waters to nuclear reactors with previous problems in the USA
5) The California budget crisis, the state is going broke very quickly
6) The fact that Egyptians are still being harshly dealt with by the military dictatorship that replaced their Pres
7) The massive rise of hate crimes towards Muslims and Homosexuals in the USA going on right now
8) The war in Iraq, that barely gets mentioned as an afterthought by ANY network
9) Serious earthquakes and volcanoes going on in many, many areas around the world
10) Massive riots taking place across Europe, most notably in Greece, but in several other countries as well

Several of these items are covered in the article, but there are many, many more examples of many news stories that matter simply being shoved aside in the MSM in favor of Weiner sex scandals, DWTS winners, rabid anticipaction of whether Palin will run for President, and several other scandals that have been blown out of all reasonable proportion and given an excessive amount of coverage than they should have been.

The first major network that simply goes back to reporting the news will gain me as a viewer for life. Right now, I get all my news from PBS and Al Jazeera, who are pretty much the last two networks just to report the news without telling you what they think you should think about it.

Luckily, I'm in Canada, where we can pickup Al Jazeera. From what I understand, it's still not provided by ANY cable or satellite provider in the USA.

Did you even read these?

It is speaking of Fascism, not Socialism.

Two completely different, polar opposite political ideas.

Opposites.
