Does anyobdy have any idea what this could be? Excuse the silly sounding title but this has me baffled. I don't see a rock or structure that would cast a shadow like that? It's odd that it seems to be to reaching for the light from the darkness..a plant maybe? Could it be a crack in the surface? Opinions welcome.

I'm going with the tentacle theory.

what else could it be?

I'm not sure what that is, but I can tell you what that is not: a tentacle.

im assuming with this being an image taken from space.. if that is a tentacle.. whatever that is attached to is HUGE!

personally dont know what that could be, im sure a sensible explanation will arrive here shortly..

I seriously doubt the light would always be like that. It's a ravine, or a spec on a lens or imaging process. Like stated on the SOHO site, if you don't find at least 3 different images of the same area its not there.

HAHAHA...made me snort milk out of my nose. Love the sarcasm. That being said, it looks like (to me anyways) the same sort of chasm that is above it and to the right.

looks like a crevasse to me.
There's no reason why something like this has to be (and I know that's not what the OP is claiming) an alien plant or structure... or even a shadow, for that matter. I can't discern anything on that ridge (correct me if I'm wrong), just an elongated area that seems to be in shadow. This, to me, suggests a crevasse or some kind of ditch/trench formation.

I wish (and again, this is not a criticism of the OP) someone would post a thread with a title like this that would make me stand up and go "wow, that's amazing... there's no way that could be anything other than (insert structure here)".
