Britain urges citizens to leave Syria immediately

beta.news.yahoo.com

The British Foreign office has urged British nationals in Syria to leave the country "immediately."

In a statement posted on the website of the British Embassy in Syria, the Foreign Office says Britons should leave "now by commercial means whilst these are still operating."

The situation in Syria is deteriorating to the point that Britain is now urging its citizens to leave the country asap. The article goes on to say that the British Embassy in Damascus cannot guarantee 'normal consular service' if a 'further breakdown in law and order' continue...

It says those who chose to remain in Syria should be aware that it's highly unlikely that the British Embassy in Damascus would be able to provide a normal consular service in the event of a "further breakdown in law and order."

Britain, France, Germany and Portugal are also sponsoring a draft resolution at the U.N. Security Council to condemn Syria.

I do wonder where this will end up. Is it going to be a continued sustained crackdown until the anti-government rioters capitulate? Or will it escalate into a civil war, given further defects from the Syrian military? Will there be a western military intervention? Will Syria create its own false flag and attack Israel to bring on an external threat? I think that would be highly unlikely but we're on an alternative news site so may as well throw that out there.

If the West push further sanctions (or more) the more in my opinion will be from the British sovereign bases on Cyprus which in turn would put British citizens at risk.. so no wonder they are taking this stance now.. I would assume NEO (non-combatant evacuation operations) would be that much harder in Syria than they where in Libya or Lebanon.

Not good news... be nice to see all these situations de-escalating.

I am aghast that there are still Brits there - what is wrong with them that they have to be "urged" to leave? Are they totally oblivious to what is going on there?

Anyone with half a brain cell would have high-tailed it outta there faster than a bullet from a gun months ago.

GTF OUTTA THERE!!!!

Some people need it spelling out to them - jeez

It is war propaganda script.

Very well written, the coordinated propaganda attack against Syria is as powerful as the one against Libya, and it worked in the same level fooling the whole (?) Western population.

Although I'm not quiet fond of the Syrian regime, maybe except for their anti-Zionist policies, one sided propaganda is just that, one sided.

So why, after 8 weeks of bloody conflict they NOW say this?

US-NATO involvement perhaps? Can you say, YES WE CAN?

Well, i think we have couple weeks until things will go really really bad there.

edition.cnn.com...

''Lebanese PM sends in troops as Syrian situation sparks clashes''

''The clashes were between Lebanese Alawites who support the Syrian government and Sunni Muslims who oppose it. There also had been a large demonstration in Tripoli in support of the Syrian people.''

''The clashes in Tripoli killed one soldier and three civilians and injured two soldiers and 10 civilians, the army said. Lebanon's National News Agency said one of those killed was an official with the Democratic Arab Party, an Alawite entity. ''

It is normal that the brits want their peaople out of Syria. The situation is deteriorating fast.
My bet (since the start of crackdown in Syria started to use army units) is that Israel will be drawn into a war with Syria, Lebanon and ofc Gaza.

Assad cannot stop the protests.Anyone who have a bit of understanding of how arabs are, will realize that for every dead, there will be 10 in the streets next day (or next friday
).Also, the rulling party is alawite (18% of Syria population) while the large majority is sunni (70%).

Killing more and more people will even make Russia and China agree with a Lybia-style resolution. So, the only real way for Assad to stay in power is to spark a war with Israel, because he might think he can stand a better chance against IDF instead NATO, not to mention that for almost every syrian Assad is better than Israel.

The other situation we might see is Turkey creating that buffer zone in Syria...but that will be like a NATO invasion, and atm, its not really an option.

War with Israel, that is what will happend next.

IMO, there could only be one
explanation for this statement.

NATO bombing of Syria will start
within 7 days or shortly thereafter.
Syria will become just like Libya.

well in that case , syria has nothing to worry about
Nato will not even fully commit to libya let alone the conflict that would be syria, thats laughable

Russia won't let NATO bomb Syria.

If Syria is toppled Russia will lose a port and all their investments there for their Navy. Supposedly Russia was going to put Iskander missiles there to go against our missiles in the region.

Only if we give Russia something really really good will they look the other way....then later down the road we'll get to toppling Russia as they lose turf.
