Key Seniors Association Pivots on Benefit Cut

online.wsj.com

AARP, the powerful lobbying group for older Americans, is dropping its longstanding opposition to cutting Social Security benefits, a move that could rock Washington's debate over how to revamp the nation's entitlement programs.

The decision, which AARP hasn't discussed publicly, came after a wrenching debate inside the organization. In 2005, the last time Social Security was debated, AARP led the effort to kill President George W. Bush's plan for partial privatization. AARP now has concluded that change is inevitable, and it wants to be at the table to try to minimize the pain.

This was too big news to not post here so everyone could see it...

And of course the news gets released late friday night...

Breaking news : There was never any money to actually pay social security... and there isn't to pay medicare or medicaid...

The corrupt government prefers to spend it on wars.

Time to fight AARP spineless behavior and the corrupt people in Washington. End the wars, bring back the troops home, take care of the seniors and veterans like it should be.

So why the flip?
Who bought their execs out?
Why would they drop a fight to maintain at least semi-decent conditions for the demographics they are there to apparently serve?

Maybe because the present system and demographics lead to the realization that there will be no benefits in the future, even in light of "financing" current payments with bond sales; i.e., borrowing to pay money that was "borrowed" from the Social Security trust fund long ago to pay for new programs and entitlements that bought the votes of the dependent recipients/beneficiaries.

We have come to the point that ALL current revenue (taxes) will go to financing the debt and paying for only a few limited programs..

Did you not realize that "financing the debt" means giving Americans' present-day federal income tax payments directly to the Chinese and Japanese and Saudis who hold most of our debt? Even they realize this can't continue and have curtailed their huge purchases of short- and long-term debt!

We will soon be to the point of giving it ALL to them without serious changes to the present system of "entitlements."
