Doesn't it always seem to be the case that we never hear about the real truth, especially when it comes to war? This is a very revealing story that shows the difference in the official story and the actually story! Check it out:

Source:
www.independent.co.uk...

Nato spoke of "some fighting" at the end of May in Nuristan province.

Parliament members and local media claimed dozens of deaths in an indiscriminate air strike.

Now, the US soldiers who fought in this remote corner of north-eastern Afghanistan appear to have cut through the spin, telling their local newspaper of a ferocious battle after Taliban fighters seized a tiny mountain village and raised the flag of the Islamist movement.

The soldiers even go on to say...

most significant" firefight their unit had been in since World War II.

Now, why is it that NATO doesn't give you the truth? Some fighting versus a firefight so significant it is comparable to ww2? some will argue that by releasing the truth will comprise security and allow the Taliban to get accurate counts on casualities caused, etc. I guess I can see that... although this firefight seems somewhat heroic as all allies survived... this is the kinda story Stars and Stripes woulda loved in the old days

Thoughts?

I think if you do some research you will find that Nuristan and Kunar with the Korangal Valley in particular has seen some of the toughest fighting of any area since the Vietnam war. This is one of the reasons they shut down the bases up there. This fight turned out ok but I think if you do some research that many other fights up there did not.

Good article, thanks.

Agreed, its no picnic over there... My bro was deployed so i spent a lot of time researching and checking it out. I guess its just odd that they wouldn't use this story for good use? It seems like great PR, especially if you bring in the ww2 quote. Also, its being reported in a British newspaper, not in America.

The units involved were part of NATO and not under the U.S. command so any information is released by NATO in Europe. Currently there are 2 commands operating in Afghanistan, NATO and U.S. Central Command. Had the unit involved been under CENTCOM that information would have been released in the US at CENTCOM's headquarters in Tampa. It is really boils down to politics with both sides not wanting to step on the others toes.

Thanks for the heads up. It does amaze me that if we are going to be doing this, why not fully document these brave men and womens' service? Why is the US not being told of the only bright spot in this quagmire? That is the amazing feats of the soldiers on the ground who give their lives for what?
