One of the great things that the Constitution of the US made popular is the idea that humans are born with inalienable rights. Nobody has to ask for rights. They are theirs because they are human.

It has never been a rule that someone living in the US has to speak english so in that sense there are no rules to follow.

Still going on about slaps in the face and spanish forced down throat when in another thread you made it quite clear that in the workplace you mention alot it was group of people who spoke english and chose to speak spanish that made you feel uncomfortable. Sounded like a personal issue then and it still does.

In many cases Press 1 for English and 2 for Spanish is because companies have expanded into Latin America and have to have a way to communicate with spanish speaking clients in spanish speaking countries. In some cases it's just covering bases.

Yes, the Pimsleur discs are good, I've never tried any others however. I am glad you took the time to try and figure out what I said in my beginner's use of the language, heh heh.

cheers to anyone attempting to understand or learn a language! It can only bring people together!

And it is perfectly alright that in many areas people are being forced to speak spanish in order to get hired for a job? With all the cultures and languages spoken, and all our immigrants that have come here to live has learned english, now they have to learn yet another language? That isn't fair or right to a heck of a lot of people.

Some jobs require learning a second language, some require a Bachelors Degree, some require special skills and talents. It's perfectly all right with me that different jobs require different skills.

I am aware of that. I was talking about jobs like working in a factory where it is not necessary.

Yes businesses are free to demand whatever requirements of their employees. We went over this in the other thread as well. People have the freedom to hire whomever they want. The only exception is affirmative action and I'm sure those speaking against the spanish speakers are against that as well. I agree, businesses should be free to hire the people that best suit their interests.

No matter how much someone wants to limit, eliminate or completely ban the use of another language in the US, they will have a long complex battle in front of them. It would be virtually impossible to enforce large scale regulations on what language people prefer to communicate in. Even if there were Government language controls and restrictions.

Either way, I think English is always going to be the primary and official language of the US.

Baloney! If I call Wal-Mart in Orlando and immediately get a voice in Spanish, it's not because Wal-Mart expanded into South America, it's because they have employees who speak Spanish and half of Orlando is Spanish speaking. Companies print labels in Spanish because they want Spanish speaking people to buy their product. But you are right about one thing, it's business first.

Orlando is a premium example of a place where many tourists go for the attractions. Walk through the mall on any given day and you will hear any number of languages, but it is ridiculous to expect the whole country to cater to every language that happens through. The only reason language has become an issue is because certain sectors are involved in reconcquista and there is an agenda to break down society. The thing that tipped me off in that guy's testimony is that the first thing he said was to another friend of his, "I'll catch yas later" which showed me that the whole thing was a phony set up.

You are correct, this is happening a lot in the States. People who are coming here from Latin America don't seem to want to really be a part of the States, they want the States to be part of them. They are being taught that reconquista is desired, and that they are just reclaiming areas which they feel were stolen from them. This is being taught even in American schools, but also programmed into them by their own govt, at least in Mexico that is happening. The fact that politicians also support this shows that no one cares about anything but votes or business. The minute someone says no, everyone shouts with the high pitched scream of political correctness. I blame the Progressives and the politicians for the state of decay and chaos.
This issue is not in the States only though. In France they are having a lot of problems, and are trying to pass similar types of legislation to control things. It's just that the nationalities are different, but the concept is the same.

I live in central america we get your products with english, spanish and french labels. Should I be complaining that foreign words have been printed on my labels?

This is a direct result of NAFTA. Yes, they want spanish speakers in the US buying their wares but it also makes it real easy for them to sell all over latin america.

What the hell does getting a spanish speaking phone operator have to do with Press 1 for English. If anything it shows that the automated phone systems are a good idea. You would have pressed 1 and the system would have known connect you to an english speaking operator.

I have also had to call tech support in the past and guess what I have been routed to tech support all over the globe. Indian accents, Salvadorean, Mexican, good old american southern drawls and Spanish from spain. Also just because you call a business in the US doen't mean their support center isn't in some foreign country.

Thank you for your eloquent post on the Constitution. Part of the Progressive plan of Socialism is to destroy the meaning of the Constitution and what it stands for. It is also a Globalist thing too, as Prez Bush trampled it too. It is the Globalists who trash the Constitution, and then hide behind it for their agenda, which is what we see in people who come to the State legislature and thumb their nose, and those who defend this agenda. The Progressives usually do know what they are doing and why, but maybe there are some who just go along because all their intellectual professor friends in the colleges have joined the trendy thing to trash the greatness of America and demand that other countries get special treatment and taxpayer money for this or that special interest.

So what! I can go to Tunisia and find products printed in Danish. Does that mean that Tunisia has to have Danish as a language taught in school or as a primary language beside French and Arabic/Berber?

And yes, more and more companies are going global and replacing US tech workers with those in India because it's cheaper labor.

I wish I could Benevolent. They were ads I had seen over the years here locally. I have also heard the same from many people all across the USA in other forums.

It had nothing to do with qualifications. I asked one of the companies why one was required to be bilingual and was told "because most of our employees speak it." Citizens were turned away from employment just because others refused to speak the language of the land. Sad. Red flags went up for me wondering if all those people were illegals.

It isn't just all about me and my personal feelings. I have seen friends turned away from employment. I have heard the voices of our citizens all across the USA who think and feel as I do. This issue involves millions of people who don't want to feel as though they left their own country.

Many other cultures who have come here and speak english do not want to be forced to learn yet another language. They came here to be American and learned english.
