I agree with you completely, but now we're back to the programming aspect of things.

Young men are taught by the media that getting lots of sex is what's important and women are taught by the same sick media that giving it up makes you popuylar and attractive. Young people are getting duped into a painful existence. They aren't being taught to wait and get to know the person. And love? What's that? Parents make a huge mistake when they allow the TV to babysit and there was been a lack of family communication that has spanned decades - which leads us to where we are now. Vicious merry-go-round!

Don't get me wrong. When someone is not in a committed relationship there is nothing wrong with them running around and testing the waters with multiple people [safely of course].

You can "date" for years, and with good communication, it can be very healthy. As long as both parties know they are involved in a non-committed relationship.

Young people should be out having fun. Personal experience tells me the people that settled down to early ended up having some of the worst relationships possible. (Not sure if there is a study to corroborate that though).

The key is to just be happy with yourself, whether you like going out and boning everything in sight, or whether you want to stick with the same hole/rod your whole life.

I'll try to keep this short..

I have to admit I was disgusted at myself when watching a film earlier. A woman was crawling along the floor, tense scene, guy with a chainsaw about to kill her and everything. I noticed that I couldn't stop looking at her behind and even found myself fantasising about having sex with this person I'm never going to meet.

But that's not all I noticed. I also noticed that I along with most males think like this all the time. ALL THE TIME. Now If you are male and you reply saying this makes me a disgusting person then look in the mirror because this is what the majority of males are like.

Why is the world like this?

This is all due to the thorough objectification of women through the media and even partly due to the principles of archaic religion. It has been programmed into our heads. Women are objects. Women are good for nothing except sex.

When you see a woman on T.V is she 'Physically unattractive' ? Usually not. But guys? They can be the ugliest people going and still represent a corporation or media outlet on T.V.

Don't think that because I can't help staring at women with a gormless expression that I have no respect for women. That is far from the case.

Women have to deal with periods and childbirth bro. That stuff is not for me.

Congratulations, your perspective on life has incurred a shift. You are now conscious of that which was an automatic compartmentalised response to a woman rather than a fellow human. Your sexual desires as a human beast have been coalesced and balanced within the layer of the cerebral cortex situated above the mammalian and reptile brains. You're on your way to knowing/feeling what it really is to be human.

I agree with you and there's nothing wrong with safely experimenting.

One of the problems I see is that young people don't have a solid couple/relationship role model. Most parents are divorced. You turn on the TV and see Maury "You are the father!" Povich, and Jerry!, Jerry!, Jerry!
It's all quite disturbing. But, it's seen as normal now.

As long as kids grow up not knowing what a loving relationship is and how to communicate, the downward spiral will continue. It will lead to more self loathing and most won't respect themselves after indulging in what the media is dishing out.

Someone with poor self respect will never love themselves, thus they won't be able to respect or love someone else.

Excellent summation! Rising above the reptilian brain and being aware. Very well stated!

You nailed it! (No pun intended)

I wish more people out there would take the time to understand the 3 entities within their brain.

As it is said KNOW THYSELF

When we were primitive reptiles our primarily instinctual brain was all we needed to run our physical systems, and to provide basic motivations and guidance on how to interact with our environment. Our instinctual brain comes largely prewired with its programming hard-wired into the neurons by our genetic coding similar to the way the BIOS code is "burned into the silicon" in modern computers. When we added our emotion driven mammalian brain, it somewhat pre-empted the existing instinct driven brain, but not entirely. In some ways our emotion driven mammalian brain became the manager of the older instinctual Reptilian brain. When under stress we would still respond first to our instinctual brain and only if time allowed shift to our emotional responses. Once again, our mammalian brain evolved as the primary operating system intended to be everything we needed - and without any consideration for the future evolution of additional layers on top. Humans evolved another layer - what I've been referring to as our intellectual layer. Once again this layer was added on top of what was already there, partly pre-empting the emotion driven mammalian brain which was partly pre-empting the core instinct driven Reptilian brain. While there are often major flaws in the real time implementation, each layer is far more capable of being aware of the layer(s) below than those above. We have basically three different brains each trying to be the primary operating system for our bodies. While it may be currently in fashion for our intellectual brains to deny the existence and influence of both our lower emotional mammalian brain and instinctual Reptilian brain, these lower systems continue to operate. When blocked by our intellect, pressures build up in our lower brains that like a squeezed balloon seek other means of expression. Also our lower brains have some amount of flexibility and adaptability in order to compensate for injuries and the other mishaps of life, and so when blocked from operating the body by the intellect seek other means of affecting control.

With our unique evolutionary focus on developing complex brains instead of the more usual physical adaptation to different environments, we're perhaps the most adaptive - and therefore least specifically adapted - of all species on earth. To compound the problem, the environment most of us live in today is more an artificial extension of some other human's fevered imagination than a reflection of the natural world in which most of human evolution occurred. As such, it's no surprise that some/all humans fail to accurately "fit" the world in which they find themselves. That is the tradeoff we've made to evolve into generalists instead of the specialists that make up the rest of the animal kingdom. Humans have the potential to develop either a greater understanding of reality or conversely suffer a greater misunderstanding, depending on the accuracy of their internal world view. When the system works, it's beyond equal in the natural world. When it gets distorted the system can eliminate any ability of the individual to understand the world around him.

I don't think he was attacking you at all. He was praising you for being able to question why you were having these urges when the situation the woman was in should have been turning you off.
If more males questioned their urges like you have, the world might not be so dumbed down.

Just imagine if in the next 20 years, women are caged and used in real life as you saw in the movie, men will be turned on instead of turned off. That's the natural progression of desensitization if people don't learn to question their physical and emotional responses to things.

This does play into a huge part of what is being discussed here. I mentioned the reptillian brain on the second page of this thread.

The reptillian part of our brain controls our basic animal urges of food, drink, and sex. Everything we need to stay alive.

I saw that movie and that was just ONE of a number of HOT scenes with that actor (not the chainsaw bit...the rear-view), so don't feel bad about it, as you were probably already AROUSED!

Now the caveman, 2 chicks and the urinating sabre tooth tiger...please tell me more?

I am talking about unnatural urges..

You are attacking me based on the situation that caused me to write about these unnatural urges.............................................................................................................................................

Change the record people please.

Here we go with that age old profound game of Snakes and Ladders. You weren't being attacked. You were being acknowledged for the 'Ladder' you climbed (UP/Cerebral) in your thoughts on the subject. In your perception of attack is the the very fight/flight mechanism of the reptile/'Snake' (Slid down).
Think about it.

Ps... there is no such thing as an unnatural thought.... that is just the label you would attach to it based on your values and morals that are learned and expressed through the cerebral cortex.

I apologise if that is the case.. its 4:58 AM here and I've been attacked in this thread countless times. My perception is starting to waver. I think its time for bed.

Thanks for contributing, hope I didn't cause offence.

...humans have been sexually objectifying each other ever since the day someone discovered that objectifying someone else was more fun than a steady diet of objectifying yourself... almost overnight it became all the rage in paris, san antonio and dallas and every honkytonk and dancehall inbetween...

...does the media use this now-natural inclination towards sexual ofjectification to manipulate us?... they sure try hard, huh?... well, thats their job - exploiting what they know will sell...

...its my job to decide how much credence i'll afford them and how much outside influence i allow in my life... blaming them for fooling me makes them the smarter entity...

I could not agree with you more. All one needs to do is look at the modern world to see just how big of a problem this is. This type of rubbish is absolutely ubiquitous. It's seen in its truest, purest form in pornography, which I detest and loathe deeply. This is indeed what happens when you allow scumbags to be in charge. Personally, I'm just sick of it. Enough is enough.

She wasn't literally about to be killed. She was crawling and hiding. I got completely distracted from the killing part by her crawling. The violence part has nothing to do with it.

That's the whole point. A lot of men get completely distracted from whatever is going on because of women. Sure other women think about sex but is it to the point of crashing a car because they saw some guy in tight jeans?
edit on 26/10/2010 by TechUnique because: (no reason given)

Your will power is low I guess... I am a man, I am straight, I love me some women but -- No, I don't get distracted by them in the fashion you have described. You part of a tribe or something? Also, there are plenty of unattractive women on TV or in Business. Rosie O', Oprah, Rachel Maddow etc... Nuff said.

Also, you shouldn't tell people to look in the mirror and act like this website represents the majority of men at all. The people at ATS are the type of people that see through stuff like this. Most men don't think 9/11 was an inside job. Most men don't believe Obama is posturing WW3 right now. Most men don't believe that the government is trying to kill the private farm industry. Most men are stupid. Most men do get distracted by women.

Here at ATS, we aren't like "Most" men. We are very well diverse, give us some credit where it's do....

And yes, I've been walking down the road and been holla'd at by cars of women on numerous occasions. They too are only human.

Its part of you... though surely not all of you thanks to the mammalian brain but in your existence in this dimension the Captain of your ship is within the Cortex. All that you learn about yourself in this lifetime is held within that cerebral grey outer mass that gives you the opportunity to know something within this new dimension that is not available to animals or reptiles.

I can understand that there are people out there who are ready for the next layer/antennae to the next dimension of thoughts available.

Eh. Not really. The reason you wanted to have sex with that woman likely has more to do with nature than it has to do with media. This is something that comedian Bill Hicks used to say about pornography when people would argue to him that pornography causes sexual thought. He would say that they were putting the cart before the horse, sexual thought is what creates pornography. The media doesn't need to sell sex to us, we already want it.

Now I'm not saying that hyper-sexuality of our culture isn't a real thing and that the media might exacerbate it to an extent but it's also natural to desire sex, a lot. It also doesn't require over-sexualized media. I grew up in a religious household and taught that sex was something to be saved until after marriage, for most of my childhood we didn't have television yet you could catch me during puberty flipping through an old encyclopedia and only stopping when I came to a picture of the female anatomy, or a Renaissance painting with a naked lady in it. Point is I was at that age when, whether society wanted me to or not, I was going to crave sex and oogle at women.

I'd also like to say there's nothing wrong with admiring a woman's physical attributes or fantasizing about sex with her. There's no reason why you can't be attracted to a woman for both her personality and body. We're hardwired to notice physical attributes first.

So while the media MIGHT play a role I think part of this is just in our nature. Now that doesn't mean we should just give in to being slobbering women objectifying apes but there's only so much we can do to fight our own nature.

The post sexual "revolution" society we currently live in is nothing short of destructive. Casual sex being accepted as the norm has only resulted in broken up families and an increasing number of children growing up in fatherless homes. I'd suggest going to the recent popular thread on men and child support and read the statistics regarding crime & fatherless homes:

www.abovetopsecret.com...

The more fatherless homes, the more criminal behavior and women desperate for male attention and affection there will be.

Did you ever consider how damaging a family unit is if they stay together in an unhealthy relationship? While divorce is not a great outcome, there is nothing to determine if it is the worst outcome.
