I pretty much have to wear dress clothes or men's t-shirts, because everything else that's out there is short, tight tops and skimpy jean shorts. Not every woman wants to dress this way. Also, I have been called a (not so nice word for a lesbian) by men numerous times because I refuse to adhere to the "dress code".

What I want to know is why it matters what someone wears? Is that how you determine how you treat people? By what clothes they wear?

There are plenty of places to shop for women that have classy clothing that is not "skimpy jean shorts" or anything of the like.

I presume you wear men's clothes for another reason. Probably relating to your self image.

One off the top of my head.

Young under age girls dancing provocatively.

Is that natural? Encouraging girls who are not even naturally ready to have sex for the natural reasons?

A caveman probably wouldn't have had sex with a 8 year old girl who hasn't started puberty yet. If we are talking on an instinctual basis wouldn't a caveman be attracted by a girl who is 'in heat' or sexually active?

edit on 26/10/2010 by TechUnique because: (no reason given)

Ok, that is a much better example. I do know that sex is being marketed to children... I recall seeing pole-dancing lessons for 3 year olds and "fashion shows" of young girls wearing lingerie-looking outfits, as well as the multitudes of other examples.
BUT... I can't really agree that it isn't too far out of normalcy for it to happen. While I'll agree with most people that it's disgusting, it does happen, and often, that men (or women) are attracted to children. This is actually common in some cultures, for example in Afghanistan, where they have those "dancing boys" parties.

But yes, I think it's wrong and physically abnormal... That doesn't mean it doesn't commonly happen, though.

These are exactly the kind of negative results I am talking about.

And that is exactly my point. This is far from an abnormal occurrence. People on ATS are so quick to derail a thread by nitpicking on little points and ignoring the main issue.

So, did you see the marks on the woman where she was beaten to comply with whomever was forcing her to act that way?

If you took it this way I apologise. Not because you're a woman and you deserve special treatment.

Because you are a fellow human being.

Calm down now.

I'm not a woman, I'm male.

I'm curious though, would you still have made the apology if you had realized I wasn't a woman?

I hear you, about the (10-to-25 age, or thereabouts) demographic. What do you think of these paranormal hunting shows where the female team members look nearly like prostitutes? The PARANORMAL for God's sake. Jeeeeez. Gimmee a freakin break!

By the way, why is the above demographic so PRIORITYover all others? Don't you notice how a lot of those are between jobs and or live with mother or girlfriend? Like I said, sexualization conspiracy.

I believe it is all about desensitization. Get them when they're young, then it will seem normal later. I have a theory about this, but I don't want to derail the thread. I haven't watched much of the Ghost Shows, but I can't stand the crap MTV puts on such as Sixteen and Pregnant. I also was totally disguested when they started showing The Fifth Wheel and other "soft core porn" shows on local channels when kids would be just coming home from school. Morals have totally gone out the window.

There is certainly a sexualization conspiracy. Scientists say that our basic needs are controlled by our reptillian brains. This includes food, drink, and sex. What do most companies use to sell their products? Our basic animal needs. We've allowed ourselves to become so dumbed down that we rely on our basic needs to decide what we want/need in our lives instead of using common sense. Our ability to decern between what we need and what we want is so blurred anymore. It's all due to programming.

It's no mistake that all the programming is for the benefit of the male species either.

You aren't derailing the thread at all. This was exactly the kind of discussion I was hoping for.

I'm afraid the thread has been derailed by repetitive mention of natural sexual urges that are obvious and do not need to be pointed out over and over again..

If I thought I had offended anyone unintentionally I would have apologised straight away. Its common courtesy...

Well there isn't much you can say about it really. We all know it happens, we all know there's a sexualization of women.
What is up for debate is why.
It's either simple human nature, or widespread perversion/mental illness, or, bringing religion into it, it's sin and a reflection of the corruption of humanity.
There's not really anything else it can be, so the little points kindof DO have to be picked at.

In regards to the pole dancing for 3 year olds:

Instructor Carly Wilford says that there’s nothing sexual about the classes and that they help build kids’ strength and self esteem. She points out that pole dancing is a traditional Indian sport called Malkhamb in which gymnast performs feats and poses in concert with a vertical wooden pole.

And while the instructor claims no harm no foul, Child Protective Services was called in:

Child protection services is investigating a British dance studio that’s offering pole-dancing classes for kids. According to a story in the Daily Mail, children as young as 3-years-old are taking the weekly Little Spinners class at Make Me Fabulous dance studio
1

I am on the side of article writer in this case where they sum it up in the following:

If she’s trying to remove the stigma around pole dancing, then I have to wonder why she doesn’t just call it something else such as “Circus Camp” or go with the Indian name of “Malkhamb.” Marketing it as a pole-dancing class is what makes it inappropriate. Would you sign your preschooler up for a pole-dancing class?

Now, while this was a brain dead move in part by the instructor as well as the parents (Who signed their kids up to a class horribly mislabeled [even if it is an Indian sport] )

Still, children have been doing gymnastics for ages, and truthfully, it is not that different. [kind of] There are many positions in gymnastics that could be viewed in the wrong light if for some reason you were looking at it that way.

My point is that you can paint everything with a black brush. While this was a bad idea, it does not represent society as a whole [just look at the outrage for it]. If they media were having such the impact that you are implying, it would mean that people would be encouraging this type of thing or it would be widespread.

Some people have been discussing why.

Others continue to repeat themselves.

Thanks for letting me know I wasn't derailing your thread. It's certainly a valid discussion because it's everywhere and society is saturated with it. Especially the music industry.

I'm a big horror fan myself and I always hated how the women are always portrayed as dumb hoes. The movie Scream tilted this a bit by making the lead heroine smart. She was pretty and her wardrobe was classy. The Strangers is another one that comes to mind where the female character was portrayed in a higher light. I'm hard pressed to think of other horror films that do this though. They certainly are few and far between!

And is there any problems that arise with sexual repression?

On the other hand, there have been numerous studies indicating that excessive repression of the sexual instinct leads to an increase in the overall level of aggression in a given society. Societies forbidding premarital sex are plagued by acts of rage and tend to have higher rates of crime and violence.[4] There may be a link between sexual repression and aggression, insensitivity, criminal behaviour, and a greater likelihood of killing and torturing enemies.

Abstinence

[weak source, I know, but there is more out there if you look]

I believe the effects are more widespread. I think that partly due to this sexual objectification of women in the media, unacceptable urges in the eyes of society have formed.

I think that a lot of sexual attacks and wrongdoings could be the indirect outcome of this sexual brainwashing. I believe it has had a serious effect.

EDIT TO ADD: I'd like to reiterate a point from my OP.

I also noticed that I along with most males think like this all the time. ALL THE TIME.

Including inappropriate times and places. This can lead to unnatural sexual behaviour and attitude ultimately having negative effects.

I was never once trying to imply that having sexual urges was unnatural. It was the all the time part I was focusing on.

Sorry for any misunderstanding... this thread has been overrun with counter production because of my failure to clarify myself properly. I tried in later posts but hopefully this one will suffice...

I'm not advocating abstinence. I'm sorry if I came across that way.

Men don't have to try anymore and women are giving it up too quickly - this is a huge problem!

Someone mentioned the animal species. Every female mammal and reptilian (I don't know about fish or marsupials), will not just roll over when the male of the species is trying to get with her. He has to prove himself worthy first.

The whole instant gratification thing is doing nothing except helping spread disease and lowering people's self respect.

I actually think it has to do with the fact that people aren't proud of who they are. Or the fact that they are ashamed or embarrassed about sex in general.

Are you saying there sexual objectification in Arab states under Sharia Law? They black out regular tabloid pics in Saudi Arabia....

Yet, how do they treat women there?

Funny thing too, if you take a glance at those porn lists that popped up when a site was hacked recently [and email addresses were posted] You will find a whole bunch of "non-sexual" Arabs on the mailing list.

It is possible that I am dumber for having read all three pages of this thread...normally I would not use the word dumb in a sentence, unless I was perhaps talking about someone incapable of speech, but in this case I feel fully justified in having used it.

I am rendered speechless and I think that fits into dumber...at least momentarily...so I am now dumber.

If I have offended anyone please accept my apology, as I am only speaking for myself, and if you have found a better understanding of yourself or those around you, then more power to you all.

Good list! I guess I'm tired. I don't agree with Misery though, Her self respect was really low. It did twist the sexual need though, which fits. The woman wanting the sex from the man is a nice twist from the norm.

It is up to Women to demand respect, and it is up to Men to find Women they do respect so they have healthy relationships.

If either sex has esteem issues or bad images of themselves it spells disaster. However, girls can be sexy and still be respected. And men can enjoy the company of sexy women while still being respectful.

If anything, the types of problems you seem to be talking about has to do more with lack of education and lack of good social activity.

I agree with you completely, but now we're back to the programming aspect of things.

Young men are taught by the media that getting lots of sex is what's important and women are taught by the same sick media that giving it up makes you popuylar and attractive. Young people are getting duped into a painful existence. They aren't being taught to wait and get to know the person. And love? What's that? Parents make a huge mistake when they allow the TV to babysit and there was been a lack of family communication that has spanned decades - which leads us to where we are now. Vicious merry-go-round!

Yes but it goes way past an instinctual urge. Did cavemen fantasise about a threesome with two cave-chicks whilst a sabertooth tiger urinates on them all? Probably not.

Dear god man, what kind of porn do you watch!?

There's your problem.....
