French Government Looks To Create Great Firewall Of France

www.techdirt.com

It was just a few weeks ago that Nicolas Sarkozy brought together a bunch of techies at the e-G8 to tell them that he wanted to start regulating the internet much more seriously. Apparently, he's not wasting much time. There's a draft executive order making the rounds that would give the French government wide latitude in censoring the internet throughout France. It really sounds quite similar to China's "Great Firewall."

With all the hacking groups like LulzSec attacking CIA.gov and Anonymous anouncing attacks on the Federal reserve, the IMF and the World bank this could mark the begining of the end for unregulated free flow of information on the whole of the net. Im sure if the French go ahead with this many countries are sure to follow suit.

I wonder if ATS will be one of the sites they ban? What ever they decide to restrict is sure set a president for the rest of the world.

So, borders are expanding into unions as countries slowly sell out sovereignty, but the free global information flow is trending towards national boundaries. They can't control the flow of information and require these heavy-handed measures to ensure they keep it under their thumb. I'm all for seeing some watchdog activity monitoring the internet, but not in NWO hands. I suspect these were orders "from above" for France, and we should be watching for the trend to continue.

Here is some more info on the subject

The Entire Internet Under Governmental Censorship In France?

Paris, June 15th, 2011 – Information website PC INpact revealed today a draft executive order which would give the French government the power to arbitrarily censor any content or service on the Net. The French government is furthering its policy to control the Internet, in complete disregard of citizens' rights and freedoms.

To implement article 18 of the law for the Digital Economy of June 21th, 2004, the French government is proposing to give to several of its ministries the power to order the censorship of online content that harms or otherwise puts at risk public order and security, the protection of minors, of public health, national defence, or physical persons.

Clearly, the definition of these categories of content are both vague and overreaching. Such censorship measures – whether they consist in the removal or filtering of content – would be directly undertaken by the government, without any decision by a judicial authority. In practice, they would apply to all kinds of websites or online news services.

Won't they just make themselves an even bigger target with people now purposfully gunning for them just so they can say they took down the GReat wall...hackers that is.....

It would draw even more hackers together........unless that is exactly what they want.

You could be right there LucidDreamer85 , the higher the security the bigger the prize ( or bragging rights ) to the group that could take it down. I guess every world class hackers group on the planet is going to want to have a go if it happens.
