Issa: Dems trying to obstruct "gunwalking" probe

www.cbsnews.com

Issa said the Department of Justice (DOJ) and ATF have not been forthcoming about the case, until very recently.

"They've really stonewalled this," he said. "They used the minority (members of) the committee to try to obstruct it. What's beginning to happen is somebody must have figured out this investigation can't end until, at the highest level, including the president, they say, 'This is not a may-have-been. ... This is a bad practice,' and this has to, we have to have assurances.

This is looking very bad for everyone...

early reports were less that 1,500 weapons were handed over to known gun runners but according to the reporter who first broke this story there many have been many many more...

It's been three months since ATF Special Agent John Dodson first told CBS News that his own agency let thousands of weapons "walk" onto the streets - many of those guns made their way into the hands of Mexican drug cartels.

Attkisson reported, ATF allowed suspects to continue buying and transferring assault weapons - sometimes 40 at a time - for more than a year.
So the ATF was selling assault weapons up to 40 at a time, for over one year... so let's do a little math... lets say they average 20 sales per-day over 365 days in a year that comes to 7300 weapons the ATF knowingly sold to Mexican Cartel members...

Everyone surrounding this case is hard core into Cover-your-ass Mode...

President Obama has said neither he nor his top Justice Department official approved it, either.

Mr. Obama said, "Well, first of all, I did not authorize it. Uh, Eric Holder, the attorney general, did not authorize it. There may be a situation here (in) which a serious mistake was made, and if that's the case, then we'll find out and we'll hold somebody accountable."

Mister Obama has had four, almost five months to find out who was responsible... I would guess he's going to get right back to looking after this afternoons hearing on the Porn star who says she texted Weiner ...

Hearings resume today... I'm sure we'll get more stonewalling... Any bets on who gets picked to be the scape goat???

It's never going to be front page news....
not as long as the Obama admin keeps a tight lid on things...

Of course you have people like me, who not so publicly make sure the real news makes the rounds...

Democrat Rep. Cummings Blaming Second Amendment Ahead of Fast and Furious Hearing

Ranking Member of the House Oversight Committee Elijah Cummings is blaming the Second Amendment and repeating lies about how Mexican drug cartels obtain weapons to carry out lethal operations. The majority of weapons in Mexico come from Russia, Central America and China, not the United States, however, democrats and the Justice Department have been using law abiding gun shop owners as a scape goat, blaming them for the violence in Mexico since early 2009. However, new information obtained by Chairman Darrell Issa, shows is ATF responsible for violence in Mexico and the United States, not the Second Amendment and not law abiding Americans. It seems as though democrats will use this opportunity of gross government failure to push more gun control.

From Cummings opening statement:

No legitimate examination of this issue will be complete without analyzing our nation’s gun laws, which allow tens of thousands of assault weapons to flood into Mexico from the United States every year, including fifty caliber sniper rifles, multiple AK variants, and scores of others. When Mexican President Calderon addressed Congress in May, he pleaded for us to stop fueling a full-scale drug war with military grade assault weapons.

This statement is false. Tens of thousands of assault weapons do not flood into Mexico each year from the United States. This has accusation has been discredited over and over again through studies and even through WikiLeaks. The only flooding of weapons across the southern border is occuring at the hands of the U.S. government.

After months of stonewalling from the Obama Justice Department, a new scathing and damning report about Operation Fast and Furious has been released, and the initial details are ugly.

-- Agents expected to interdict weapons, yet were told to stand down and “just surveil.” Agents therefore did not act. They watched straw purchasers buy hundreds of weapons illegally and transfer those weapons to unknown third parties and stash houses.

-- ATF agents complained about the strategy of allowing guns to walk in Operation Fast and Furious. Leadership ignored their concerns. Instead, supervisors told the agents to “get with the program” because senior ATF officials had sanctioned the operation.

-- Agents knew that given the large numbers of weapons being trafficked to Mexico, tragic results were a near certainty.

-- Operation Fast and Furious contributed to the increasing violence and deaths in Mexico. This result was regarded with giddy optimism by ATF supervisors hoping that guns recovered at crime scenes in Mexico would provide the nexus to straw purchasers in Phoenix.

The family of Border Partrol Agent Brian Terry will testify today on Capitol Hill. Terry was killed in the Arizona desert by a gun traced back to ATF's lethal operation.

Elijah Cummings is an asshat. I wonder what Calderon thinks now. I can't wait to hear what he has to say about this.

Yeah, anyone who still has any faith in either the Govt Agencies or Obama should be ponying up to the bar right now.

It is very safe to say that the rabbit hole goes much much deeper then anyone can imagine.
Sure hope we find the bottom, but once there I am sure it will be blurred.

As always, great find DaddyBare

Not to portend doom and gloom, but wouldn't this offer leverage to the government for stricter (more so than now) gun control over the masses.
Remember a citizen carries a weapon to protect themselves; their loved ones and their freedom. A subject is not offered a chance to protect themselves, but must rely on the government for protection. Which are you?

In the thread I posted shortly after your the Fox News report it was taken form has everyone playing the "stupidity" card. It appears they can name some names along the way done the rabbit hole but I suspect the bottom of it ends up on top and we will likely never arrive there.

I wholly suspect there are much more sinister motives that no one dares suggest. People will believe stupidity and be happy enough with that as long as they can find some middle-level player that looks just stupid enough. If they stonewall too long someone will tie some ends together and expose more of the actual game and its motives. I believe those are just sinister and unthinkable enough the public won't believe it even if it gets spelled out to them and with a signed confession. No way will they believe their government could do such dastardly deeds. Must have been some loose-cannon that went off.

Well it might go somewhere.
Just depends who the scapegoat is and plus congress is going to look like the good guys because they followed through with this till a conviction. One sure way to end this completely is for them to go further and ADMIT the War on Drugs is the reason this is happening.
Anyways here is a half hour video of todays hearing.

As others have indicated, allowing American guns to slip into Mexican Drug war was completely intentional.

It's a common tactic of special operations domestic psychological operations to highlight actionable news to create a need to; buy bonds (WWII), bailout banks (GDII), or create more enforcement (WW3/9-11).

CNN for the last week or so participated in the administration's propaganda by running stories about the need for additional gun control on Americans based on guns flowing into Mexico, at the same time other news outlets were running gunwalking stories about the ATF allowing guns to flow into Mexico.

"Never let a crisis go to waste" is the mantra of this administration. If there's no crisis, then create one.

If there's no reason to clamp down on guns, then create a gun crisis so that you can manipulate public or court opinion to undermine the constitution yet some more. Doesn't matter the government caused the crisis, the controls are presented as the solution.
