Then you loose that bet. You can send me a check anytime.

Didn't hear about the banking bailout in 2008? Massive amounts of money the fed res is is continuing to loan to banks? No bid contracts on the Iraq war? Huge subsidies for oil companies, agriculture companies, free medicaid for illegal immigrants to subsidize illegal immigrants for a low wage work force?

But there's demand elsewhere in the world.

Are you that clueless?

Where?

China has to sell its stuff to the U.S., because they don't have enough domestic demand to sustain their own economy. This is why they loan us huge amounts of money, so we can buy their stuff. It isn't exactly a great economic plan. Japan is mired in a huge continuing economic downward spiral, and is in far worse shape than the U.S., and China's economic plan mirrors Japan's.

Third world countries pay their workers squat, and they don't allow unions to organize. Anyone who attempts to start a union is quickly snuffed out. This is why their economies are wrecks.

Europe is barely treading water. They certainly aren't going to pick up the slack for a drop in U.S. consumerism. Paying good wages is what drives any economy. Without workers making good money, there is no demand.

I see, it is all a luck of the draw, and nothing to do with what people do with their lives?

Nonsense, what made the U.S. so successful is that people fought for their rights and the government they deserve.

That is the problem with immigrants like you, you want to pretend that the success of the U.S. is a matter of luck. You ignore that the people in the U.S. fought to obtain their rights, and that is what lead us to the highest standard of living in the world. It is a slaves mentality to be satisfied with the crumbs of your labors. This is why conservatives love immigration.

Why shouldn't we demand an honest days pay for an honest days work.

The reason you live better in the U.S. is because in the past, the people of the U.S. fought and won their rights, many times, not just in the civil war.

This economic crisis has been created by rampant fraud at the highest levels of industry and banking, and the government refusing to enforce the laws against fraud, with politicians having been elected on the con job of the free market.

With current technology and production capabilities, we should all be living better, instead we are trapped in a system broken by corruption.

If you noticed my second post I did say that if you don't like your life or don't want to lower your standard of living get up off your a$$ and do something about it..find different employment or whatever it takes to live to the standard you think you should deserve..but don't rely on the govt to provide you with or promise you that you are going to be a rockstar.

The "most people are dealt a crap hand" comment was referring to the heiress buying her multimillion dollar mansion in LA. I mean the chick got lucky and was born into a family that was able to provide her way of life without struggle..Most people have to struggle and work hard and most of the time to never see the riches at the end of the rainbow.

Look...basically my motto is that I don't trust anyone...I don't rely on anyone so therefore I have no obligation to anyone else. I make my way in this world and so should everyone else..don't go around complaining and whining all the time that you can't have it all..more times than not, you're NOT going be the rockstar with the big house and car and nice income. Some people have it some don't..if you don't just move on and be happy with the life you have.

Honest pay, standard of living...blah..blah..blah...who make this up? Who decides? Honestly, in america you really have nothing to complain about. BTW my family has been here a VERY long time. We have seen fortune come and go with cotton and tobacco farming so please don't think i'm FOTB..I am a first generation northerner though.

Who is asking to

rely on the govt to provide you with or promise you that you are going to be a rockstar.
?

What a crock of nonsense. Demanding decent pay and decent prices is not asking to be a rock star. Why would you think this? What the people are asking government to do is start enforcing the laws against white collar crime, and start punishing businesses who break the law by hiring illegal aliens.

Standing up for your rights is not asking the government for a hand out? if you know anything about the U.S., then how do you not know that this country succeeded by standing up for their rights, for justice, by not putting up with con artists and charlatans.

Did you ever think that this twenty something buying this huge mansion, got her money because her family was allowed to lie cheat and steal their wealth? For someone who doesn't trust anything, you sure seem to support a system that allows one group to steal from another.

Honest pay, standard of living...blah..blah..blah...who make this up? Who decides?

Either you can be a part of the decision process, or you can choose to be a slave, and let others decide, because if you let others make the choice for you, then you are choosing to become their slave. Or worse, you can choose to be a slave, and help your slave master enslave others.

Yeah. Keep believing that crap. The US was built up on purpose to the detriment of Europe. Now the it's the BRIC countries' turn to the detriment of the US. Empire building and destruction has been going on for a long time.

As I've said, keep believing that crap. The King of England never ceded anything. You won nothing.

1) You've no proof, anyway.
2) Steal what, exactly? Globs of sweat from the workers?
3) It's the people's fault for supporting these rich folks' businesses.

Regarding number 3, there was a thread here not too long ago about American children in poverty by 60 minutes. One of the families suffering used to do detailing for expensive cars for a living and that they were living a good life with vacations, etc. Now, the Western penchant for vacationing really boggles my mind. What is so appealing about it? You spend a few grand flying off to somewhere then you return home. Seems quite pricey for a few images burned into your memory endgrams, doesn't it?

The people who built up the U.S. didn't care about the detriment of Europe.

You are still worshiping kings. That is your problem.

first.....
I've been working in the printing business for close to nine years now, over five at my place of employment that I am at now.....
if I were to settle for and apt. that is a quarter of my income, well...I guess I'll just bypass that one and live under a bridge!! since, I've been looking and there's nothing coming in under $250 dollars!!

or........I could go down to the nearest social service office and get the US taxpayer to pitch in on the rent!! which is what alot of people are doing!!! so, well, we got the people poorer than ever, relying on a gov't that is so deep in debt from all the bailouts and tax breaks for the rich, not to mention the wars....for the rich...
and well, we got the rich and big businesses....raking in the profits!!!

no, I am not gonna settle for this!!! it's suicide!!!!
either the big business and rich start pitching in and helping this country out by paying a little more taxes, paying it's employees a little more, or the gov't is gonna have to eventually increase those taxes and drop those social programs, and then welll, the businesses will have to pay their employees more if they want healthy living productive employees!!!

by the way....
you can't live in most of the US WITHOUT indoor plumbing!!! or electricity!! and well, maybe soon, HEALTHCARE INSURANCE!!

Sorry, but that is a bunch of nonsense. The history of mankind is one of ever increasing individual rights and standards of living.

People conned by the free market scam which you support with you opinions, have allowed elites to gain power over the last thirty years, but they are slowly waking up to what a con the free market concept is.

Right now, most are at the end of the denial phase. If is very difficult to admit that you were wrong about something you deeply believed in. They sit back flabbergasted at how they have been fooled. Next will be the anger phase, and it will not be good for the super rich.

Considering your avatar, anti-American talk, and praise of socialist Europe, I would say that you are in the cloud of confusion at the end of the denial phase, where the truth is starting to break through those layers of denial.

Clearly the policies of the free market play into the hands of the bankers, and it is pretty obvious they are the biggest crooks of all, and the biggest recipients of government welfare. Those are the cheats who need to be taken down.

Or is it, that you think you know more about history, then you really know.

As I pointed out long ago on the Rome thread, Britain defeated the Catholic church and her champion long ago, and the protestant countries have ruled our planet for a long time. Democratic style government have triumphed, and the Catholic church is an organization fading in power.

In this modern world, the actions of the elites is more like a cornered rat. This last grab for power has only lead to economic collapse, as the one before that. They managed to re-inflate the stock market, but it is nothing but hot air.

There are several groups in the U.S. alone vying for power. The same situation exists everywhere.

Right now, all the big forces that shape the progress of humanity are arriving at a major turning point. This is why the whole 2012 nonsense has such an appeal.

The ICs which currently control most of the power were created by technological advancement and economic forces, not by the men who managed to manipulate themselves to the top of these organizations. The people who managed to spin their way to the top were mainly people lucky enough to be at the right points at the right time with the talent necessary for the situation.

The thing is, the very forces that created these ICs, which are not people or families, but natural cycles of evolution, are now going to tear these ICs apart, because the giant ICs no longer serve a purpose.

Just at the multiplying protestant movements took down the Catholic church, the vastly multiplying technological innovations are taking down the ICs, and the destruction of their influence will be far swifter.

These threads are a joke. Today millions of Americans can't make ends meet. People who still have something put their head in the sand and ignore it.
I have seen people who were well off 100K+ end up with nothing. No they weren't living lavishly... but a few years unemployed with medical expenses eats savings fast. As for finding a job most were 50+ so that's not easy in the age of "over qualified" and its very real.
I would wish ill on those saying "pull yourself up by the bootstraps" but your time is coming...
America is facing a growing poverty epidemic. I was part of an exploratory group to find an answer. There is no politically acceptable one was the long and short answer. This wealth divide wouldn't be a big deal except that wages are shrinking especially when inflation is added in. Any American who has less than 50K in savings will eventually face their own economic crisis (that amnt is sep from retirement).
Inheritance is disappearing which means no more family home.
People need to realize a rising tide lifts all boats. The boogie man entitlement leaches are just that... now they make up such a small percent of all gov programs that its not a realistic concern. That number of people forced on those programs will grow (esp. with revised date we expect to come out of our recession).
All I can type on my phone for now... hope we all start fighting for our neighbors

Meanwhile, Down Under in Australia, we Aussies sit back with a beer listening to the Americans and the Europeans argue with each other over who has the bigger penis, and awaiting the inevitable fall with a smile on our face - knowing that when it all crumbles us Aussies will be there to get things going again - the RIGHT way
