The middle-eastern 'Arab Spring' took a new turn today with a significant hardening of language from Turkey towards the Syrian government - language that leaves many different options open to exploration...

Only a day after its general elections, Turkey has begun a substantial re-evaluation of its Syrian policy, as more than 7,000 Syrians have now fled to Hatay while another 15,000 mass near the border, according to reports.

“Turkey will keep engaging with Syria [to urge it to enact reforms and abstain from violence], but Syria’s attitude will determine our position,” a ministry official speaking on condition of anonymity told the Hürriyet Daily News.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry held a coordination meeting Monday with the participation of the Prime Minister’s Office, during which officials made “a political evaluation on Syria,” according to diplomats.

The meeting came after Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said Thursday that Ankara would talk to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in a “very different manner” after Sunday’s vote.

A day after the general elections, Turkey has begun a reappraisal of its policies toward unrest-hit Syria after a recent spike in the number of people fleeing the Arab republic. Some 7,000 Syrians have sought refuge in southern Turkey since the beginning of the security crackdown

Could this be one of the potential flashpoints for a proper WAR as part of the Arab Spring? I've been left scratching my head wondering how this is part of the 'Shock Doctrine' that is clearly being applied in the middle east. Who wins from a war started by turkey to liberate oppressed citizens in Syria? What is the 'oil' factor here?

Most of all, how would a war in this regard affect Israel?

No.

What on earth makes you see "WW3" in any of the article above? You're joking.

Ok, Turkey and Syria will not war. Why? Simple. Turkey has too much to lose. By declaring border actions, Turkey would show force in its Eastern areas. The regions have a large Kurdish Following that would support Syrian power and try to overthrow Turkey (Again), thus driving Turkey into another Civil War.

Furthermore, the conflict already in Stria would intensify with border troops crossing the border and may lead to US involvement (as Turkey is considered a "key ally" in the fight on Terrorism). Turkey hates the US and would like less involvement, thus would not jeopardize this.

Overall, a war like this is as unlikely as Saudi Arabia giving oil rights to Iran in the Persian Gulf.

Could anyone have foreseen the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand causing the 1st World War? Neither of the world wars were a static declaration of war my abrupt friend, rather, they were steady escalations of conflicts. WW3 will take a while before it kicks off - with many smaller scale wars helping it to 'float'.

Interesting points.

However, I don't think that the US issue is as you describe. The Turks have some of the most powerful armed forces in Europe, and could relatively easily handle Syria by themselves. They wouldn't need to request help.

Lol, what a joke.

I see no war breaking out between Syria and Turkey. Syria is busy enough with their own people and Turkey won't start a war until until the PKK is gone for good. It's none of our business.

The U.S. is poised to attack Syria? Could it be honestly said that Turkey would stay out of it if Nato intervened?

The leader of Turkey is a fool and Turkey in general is extremely selfish. They will do nothing unless it benefits them. The EU could be leaning on them very hard at the moment do to the massive flood of Refugees, they maybe even threaten to cut them out of NATO if they do not clean up their neighborhood and help for once.

The problem is Russia will not have it. They will fight Turkey if they have to, Russia has had it and will fight now to keep Assad in power as payback for NATO meddling in Ukraine.

If that happens, who do you think is going to be the real target when they all get into Syria and smash the rebels there? Yep you guessed it, Israel.

Russia has been trying to get the Arabs to take out Israel since they started their nuclear program. Russia even planned on bombing Dimona themselves with their Bison bombers but do to their poor fuel mileage their landing site in Egypt was wiped out by Israel forcing Russia to call it off, never mind the chance of them actually making it into Israel without being blown out of the sky was not worth the risk anymore. The IAF was clearing the skies of all Egyptian and Syrian planes in the epic turkey shoot called the six day war giving Russia a big reality check.

Not just now, but for a long time now, Turkey has been involved in people trafficking.
Every year the number of people trafficked through Turkey, buy people smugglers and the Turkish government/agencies, has increased.
We now have the present crisis, with half a million people so far this year, with more then 50% of them having come through Turkey and into Greece.
The Turkish navy/coast guard are active participants in these activities, and often will sink boat loads of people and let the Greeks deal with rescuing them. Or they will literally just put people in the water off their boats and let Greece deal with it.
At times they have even attempted to accuse Greece of sinking migrant boats, releasing some crappy videos on youtube. Unfortunately a few times they've actually "dobbed" them selves in instead of making it look like Greece was responsible.

There's also now reports that upwards of 18,000 Syrian refugee children who are in Turkey have been victims to organ harvesting, another practice which the Turkish state is involved in. 18,000+ children. Let that sink in for a moment.
These children have fled the horrors of war, and have now come across the horrors of the Turkish deep state.

On top of this, what should be the third strike, is Turkeys training, funding, and arming of ISIS terrorists in Syria.
Turkey has even helped facilitate the movement of Arabs/Muslims coming from Western countries to join ISIS.
There's a reason why all of them went through Turkey, and not Iraq or Lebanon. Because Turkey is one of the principle funders/suppliers of ISIS along with Saudi Arabia..except Turkey shares a border with Syria, Saudi Arabia does not.

And if that was not enough, here is strike number 4. Turkey has been supplying not only ISIS, but other terrorists throughout the so called "Arab spring", including Libya. Remmeber, Libya, where NATO took action. Meanwhile, NATO member Turkey(among others), was arming and funding the terrorists that overthrew the government there. Same thing in Egypt, Turkey was a big supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood.
Just this past week the Greek coast guard busted another cargo ship loaded with weapons from Turkey(and America).

Greece has actually seized a lot of weapons, including thousands upon thousands of assault rifles and tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition.
They have even seized MRAPS, YES MRAPS bound for the hands of terrorists. Guess from who? USA/NATO/etc.

Strike number 5....Turkey supports HAMAS and other terror groups in Palestine.
So much so they actually have high level secretive meetins with Hamas etc leaders in Turkey, and roll out the red carpet for them as if it's heads of state visiting Ankara.
