I thought this was pretty cool. There are quite a few links via the 'ole ubiquitous googlemeister/meistergoogle on this trick and the stories behind it. Here is the video I saw tonight - I can't believe there is almost nada on Houdini in the search here on ATS. Anyhow, pretty cool trick.

As the magician performing the trick explains, "Houdini always said that no trick could fool him. If he saw it three times, he could figure it out."

This one took him seven:

There is a lot of material on Dai Vernon, the "man who stumped Houdini" out there...a lot of it implies Houdini was humiliated by the magician and shunned him for the short remained of his life.

Here is some people (magicians) who know more about this than I do speaking of Mr. Vernon...

General info on the guy Houdini Hated

Slightly more up to date info:

Now he is a Master!

Anyone know of this guy? Magic ain't my gig baby, but card tricks always intrigued me. Seems like a guy who only got some quasi-due?

Actually it is two different tricks in 1. And uses 1 special card in the deck. Watch again you'll see it.

This thing about magic tricks are the harder you look, the more you can't see the trick. Because your not really looking

I think that's it. I keep concentrating on the wrong thing, but still, great sleight of hand!

The great thing is for me you could tell me what to look for and I still can't see it! I am still curious if anyone knows anything more about the original story and if it is really true. Thanks for posting and maybe we'll get it some day!

Thanks for the post Skerrako; as someone with knowledge of these tricks, are you familiar with this Dai Vernon man and his stumping of houdini? I am wondering if it isn't just an urban legend...

Thanks again!!

No, I haven't heard the story before, but it's probably true, Houdini was always ragged on for not being a true magician by the established master magicians. They kind of looked down on him as a circus act. Even though I give Houdini all the respect in the world, that was the status quo at the time.

Give some credit to the performer though, the technique is great, if I did it you definitely would be able to see what I am doing by the third time! Maybe ill try it and post it on here

Cool trick though. Would love to be able to do tricks like these, but alas it's not to be.
