sc25.com...

I see there is going to be a major annoucement Tuesday about our solar cycle. Is this announcement from nasa? Anyone know. Maybe they might say that the flares have got a connection to these volcanos. Who knows.

good find op

I'll be coming back later today to find out what it is... I really hope they are linking the cme's to earthquakes and volcano's - would be good to finally have confirmation of this!

There has not been a single mention by NASA that these CMEs are causing earthquakes, volcanic activity, etc. Why would they start saying such things now?

Well clearly it's related to the length of this solar minimum.

Have a feeling it will be something to do with the suns 'conveyor belt'

Yup... the sun's conveyor belts have elongated and have been sticking together and now it has lost its cyclic memory.

Or maybe they have finally interpreted the pure hydrogen hicups.

So if they say that these volcanos and quakes have some thing to do with the solar storms we are having. Imagine how much more qaukes we will have when this solar storm system gets to its busyist point. Here in Christchurch we will have to have shock asorbers in our legs.

Or maybe the end of the minimum..
I heard here the other day there was a huge flare that may effect equipment at both poles..
The biggest in 20 so they said..

We've only had an M class flare in the last few weeks and that one ended up missing us.

Not that it would have done a lot anyway.

It's funny, the article (August 2010) I linked to mentions how the sun is close to waking up and then reading the article in the OP the sun is still close to waking up.

Think the conveyor needs some oil.

Odd, I listen to ABC radio and it was only a few days ago that I heard what I mentioned.

ABC is usually pretty credible..

None of these announcements are ever any fun. They start out with a lot of hype than after the announcement there is the...thats it? Moment.

Weird, there was no big flare recently and certainly not biggest in 20 years.

Here ya go, but here it says biggest in 5 years..
Though I guarantee the radio said 20.

An unusual solar flare observed by a NASA space observatory could cause some disruptions to satellite communications and power on Earth over the next day or so, officials said.

www.abc.net.au...

This was dated 8th June so I guess that's what they were talking about.

edit; They may have said the "effects" would be the worst in 20 years..

"result"?? thats an intersting term to use in regards to solar activity.
sounds as if results from tests are coming in. I'll crap myself if they can link EQs to flares.
