I have one poster who keeps adding me a s a 'respected foe', sometimes several times in a few minutes. This has happened maybe ten times in the past month. And while I appreciate being so respected, I have to wonder why someone can re-add someone more than once. I dont really need to keep getting the notifications, you know?

Is this a bug in the works, or am I supposed to be paying each of these standard u2u's as something important?

I've been wondering about that. This same individual sends me rather combative u2u's every now and then as well, but i see no way to 'alert' a u2u.

lil help?

All I can say is "sweet". You must be pissing off the wrong people. Alert mods and then do personal sleuthing.
Keep posting.

Yeah I've been 'foe spammed' before, it's a pain in the butt.

The general consensus was it was a non-issue so nothing was done.

But you should still alert it so they at least know about it and how it isn't a non-issue.

To alert it hit complain button in tools.

That is for posts, not u2u's.

thanks. I'll try it, although if it is a 'non-issue' i'm not very motivated.

I'm just curious if a moderator can offer some input in this thread? It is a bit annoying to have to go delete those u2u's.

or,

maybe allow it to continue.

it may be just a scare tactic from a "member" who is going to be banned soon enough anyway.

many "members" get banned after completing their "assignments".

some the same day they join !!

we do have forum gangs here !

in fact, some "members" may even be the same people.

there are ways to to get multiple IP addresses from the same place !

take a close look at the "join" dates .... if it is recent ... don't be too concerned.

it could also be mistakes.

the "member" dropdown selector .....

"view posts"

is directly below

"make rival"

easy to press the wrong button in error

perhaps the "make rival" needs to last in line ?

perhaps suggest that.....

You could try forwarding the contents of the u2us to a Mod you feel confident with. It doesn't have to be alerted, but the advice from a good Mod should tell you what to do next.

I had a post-banned member pestering me last year. I eventually notified a Mod and found out a couple of months later that the member got banned as a result of such behaviour. Funnily enough, I rarely respond to cryptic or critical u2us since realising that the senders tend to come across as mentally-ill and/or trolls. The ATS back-channels can be a crazy old place.

Based on your post,I am going to have to add you as a respected foe.

So, still no moderator input?

I've had the thought of returning the favor in kind to this particular poster, just to be as annoying as he...

Instead, I added him as a friend a few weeks back (just to offer an olive branch and attempt to subvert the moronic notion of 'foe'), but apparently you don't get a notification for that.

From the T&C:

Forum posts, private messages, PODcasts, blog entries, videos, images, and other supported content that violate these terms and conditions are subject to action that may include, but is not limited to, edits, removal, or account termination of the poster.

The T&C states that u2u's are covered by it as well. Let's look further:

15a) Offensive Content: You will not Post forum posts, private messages, PODcasts, blog entries, videos, images, and other supported content, links to images or use avatars and/or signatures that are unlawful, harassing, libelous, privacy invading, abusive, threatening, harmful, hateful, vulgar, obscene, and/or disruptive. You will not use text, images, avatars or link to images or domains that contain gore, mutilation, pornography or illegal content. Doing so will result in removal of your Post(s) and immediate termination of your account.

and:

16) Behavior: You will not behave in an abusive, libelous, defamatory, hateful, intolerant, bigoted and/or racist manner, and will not harass, threaten, nor attack anyone.

So if you're being harassed by someone, file a complaint and it will be looked into. Only SkepticOverlord can check that out but if someone is being harassed by another via u2u he can discern it.

If someone doesn't like you, they can foe and unfoe you, and it fills up your U2U box with foe alerts. But really, that's pretty juvenile.

if the user keeps on adding you to the rivals list, maybe it's an indication that said user is expecting the rival function to work like an ignore function.

and like any features based on "ignorance", if at first it doesnt work, keep bashing the button till it does.

Pretty much. If it didnt light up my inbox repeatedly, i woud just think it's cute.

It's pretty obvious this person is trying to use it as a reverse star function or something. It's like telling someone you arent speaking to them.
