What would you do?

It's always fun to dream and wish and hope and yes, even pray for that big windfall. But what would you do with it? Therein lies the dilemma.

I wanted to take a break from the doom and gloom for a bit and just wish/dream/hope a little. Good for the soul.

We have all heard stories of people winning big and losing it all in a few Years or even Months. Is that you?

Top 10 Unlucky Lottery Winners

top-10-list.org...

It is difficult the way it is to win the lottery that those people did, nonetheless they have managed to lose it all and end up worse then before winning that lottery. If you win the lottery, make sure to get a financial advisor and be smart about your winnings. Winning the lottery can be exciting and fun and can change your life for the better, as long as you handle it well!

We have all heard of the average working Joe saying that they wouldn't quit their jobs and many do just that. They love their life to the point of not wanting to even change their day to day routines.

Many have bought cars, houses, businesses, jewelry etc. Changed their lives completely!

And still more have given a portion or all of it to charity. Some have given it to family members and some have not given 1 penny to loved ones.

Here's mine:

1 small bar on a white sand beach on a small tourist type island, 1 sail boat, 1 fishing boat, 1 small plane with pontoons and a cottage for me and my wife. A granny house for my mom and I'll think about the rest when I get there. But it's a start. All paid in cash and the remainder turned to silver and gold...buried on the island.

So, what about you? $1,000,000 TAX FREE! (For the US Lotto winners of course)

C'mon...live a little!

Good Luck!

Here's hoping the hoagie is the best damn hoagie in the known Universe! Just in case you lose.

First thing I would do is call my lawyer and get
legal issues taken care of first.I would pay all of
our bills off, build a cabin in the country, buy my hubby
a new truck, tell the kids' after we spent it all! If the kids'
find out first,it's all gone before the ink is dry on the paperwork.

One thing that I forgot about...as a christian lady,I have to pay
my tithes on this windfall.

Is that million before or after taxes?

Buy a nice plot of land somewhere out of the way, build a decent cabin, stock with supplies, discretely buy gold bullion with the rest and bury it.

I'm in Canada so no taxes on it. I guess I'll have to amend my OP for the US.

Well, he's not really wrong though......Actually space can be either incredibly cold or incredibly hot...all according to whether you are directly in front of the Sun's rays, or shielded from them. Also there is no medium for heat conduction in space...so it's like you will be in a giant thermos.... objects can remain either cold or hot, much longer. So it's probably a good Idea to have a pretty decent air conditioner/heater on board your ship!

$250,000 go to my parents

$250,000 go to Law School

$250,00 go in a safe place that yields steady interest. It's not to be touched for five to ten years (I'm 20).

$83,333 go towards a checking savings account

$83,333 go towards a roth IRA

$27,777 go towards carefully chosen stocks and investments

$27,777 go towards various living expenses

$20,833 go towards charity

$6,944 go towards a personal shopping spree for nice suits, clothing, and w/e.

I think I would be ok with 1mill tax free.
A guy can dream, can't he?

I would buy some land as far away from society as possible (but most likely would still reside in Canada, and most likely still in BC). I would spend most of the money trying to get off the grid and to become as self sufficient as I could while still living a life of luxury (which really isn't that much for me... a canoe, a truck, a dog, a woman and as many vinyl records as I can get my hands on). And then I would write a book...

But first, I would make sure that my parents are taking care of ... family first! Me second (they've given me the same respect, it's time to turn the tables)

'd open a factory called " It's Your Turn Now To Burn" and invite all the criminal elite. I would first run them through 10, 500,00 volt stung guns hookes up to their gonads. Then stick 40 amp soldering irons up their tales.....Then I would microwave their manhood.....I think then they will see that they want to change professions....and help the good, honest human beings of this earth...Bzzzzz...Bzzzzzz,...Bzzzzzzz......

Pay all my bills.
Get a passport.
Get out of the US (to who knows where).
Buy a fixer-upper house on some acreage with fresh water flowing on it and tell the world to go play in traffic.
Buy a glorious gaming computer and buy Frictional Games so they can make me some crapinmypants horror games forever!

Hahaha, that would be fun. However, I'm still not old enough to even set foot inside of a Casino (at least for a couple of months).

I am thinking long term with this. I want to be as comfortable as possible in this life, and that means playing it smart.
Don't worry, those investments would allow me many a good night in Vegas just on the return yields.

Buttonwood Caye in the Caribbean, already has a shack, a small white beach and a serviceable dock to park your boat and seaplane. Was the cheapest I could find close to your specifications. Will cost you $750,000 US. Brand New 2011 Centaur Centaur 2 Amphibious Seaplane will cost you $170,000, leaves you $80,000 for the boat and the bar. Doesn't leave much for fixing up the beach shack and paying for your existence once your on the island. Suppose it could be a holiday set-up so you fly in for vacation. You would need a good job though. The only reason I costed this out because everything you said is probably what I would do, minus the sea plane as I don’t know how to fly. Now if I could win more then $1000,000, say $2000,000 I suppose I could learn

Nice!

It can be done a little cheaper tho.

And as for the income, the bar is the business with the fishing boat charters and float plane sight seeing etc.

That would be the approach.

I am thinking there is a serious power shortage coming, or already here. Which ever way you look at it. I am thinking 4 or $500,000 in a power generation company. I do not know what yet, wind or solar or both. As long as there is money, there will be power requirements. If it nets me over $100,000 year in profits, I would be happy.

Screw the stock market.
I want something to show for it. Not some hyperinflated piece of paper that might be a little more worthless tomorrow. Just my opinion.

Oh, got to have a few acres of woods. And a nice undergroud house. I think a mil would cover me.

ETA: I forgot to say S&F for a little vacation on the doom and gloom. Now I have to go check my lottery ticket.
