My bad. You're correct Phage as this is not a new phenomena (should have done more research!). Anyhow...


As of June 2009 the Royal Meteorological Society is gathering evidence of the type of weather patterns in which undulatus asperatus clouds appear, so as to study how they form and decide whether they are distinct from other undulatus clouds.

Apparently these clouds form without storms forming afterwards unlike Undulatus formations.



I hope I get to witness Undulatus asperatus as often as I witness mammatus formations! Or perhaps even the dense mammatus formed due to volcanic activity! The mammatus in the OP are so thick and dense! Never seen mammatus quite like that!
