NY Times

After reading this, and near the end the quote by Obama's economic adviser's clearly shows how out of touch they are with reality. Companies are not hiring because they fear the increased cost of healthcare. They are buying equipment made overseas. Think your jobs are coming back any time soon? Think again! You are being replaced by machines because they don't need healthcare!

I've said it before, I'll say it again. America needs to catch up with the rest of the world and realise that a national healthcare system is the way to go (moan about 'socialist' healthcare all you like but it works for the rest of us). It's not the business owners' job to give you health insurance, the government's role in society is supposed to be that of protecting/caring for the people.

I agree as an ex network administrator.

At many companies I worked it was standard policy to have the latest computer equipment while in a lot of cases the same work could have been done on the old computer.

The reason this happens is because the govt is surely in bed with the corporations that make the equipment, because the govt gives tax breaks for the equipment they buy.

At most places being able to watch youtube or chat online in a browser is the norm nowadays.

No, the governments role is to protect the people, not care for it! Read your constitution!

What constitution? I live in the Peoples Republic of Great Britain, where the dear leader and the government makes sure we're healthy and all have access to medical care.

Viva La Revolucion! (sarcasm btw)

Really though, you'd be much better off with a national health care system.

Yes, the 20 billion a year in the hole system? That's the one you want everyone to implement? That sounds great! How far down in the sand can you actually stick your head?

Compared to the US we're laughing all the way to the bank when it comes to healthcare. Sure we're gonna endure cuts but we're still a hell of a lot healthier and spending alot less on healthcare.

By the way, the 40 billion we spend on building our military to invade poor defenseless countries would more than cover that '20 billion black hole'.

until our citizens can get off their lazy asses and force the government to run properly, it will never happen. We spend billions invading other countries, the UN, NATO, bailouts and giving to other nations who hate us! Yes, the money is there. Yes if done properly it would work. But there are for more serious issues that need resolved before that can be done. What our air headed leader forced down our throats is what is causing this because it doesn't work!

I'm not saying the policies pursued by the Obama administration at the moment are good, I think the current administration has been weak in genuinely trying to reform the healthcare system over there.

I'm saying America should pursue a genuine national healthcare system which disregards the profit seeking of the medical establishment. The amount of income the US government spends already on healthcare, they should be able to make the system work, no problem.

He means protect the people from exploitation, which is easily confused with entitlement spending. The reality is that some people do not know the exploitation is there, and others think it's ok for it to exist because that's how it was in the past. And still others think it's a crime and thus think the government should be involved. Everyone it seems is on different pages.

What would have been considered fair in the past is now a crime. It seems that as the years pass people get more picky and paranoid and things that were once legal are now considered exploitation. In general, these kinds of things are resisted at first. But sooner or later the public catches up. But one has to wonder how long we can afford to do this. The reality is that we cannot afford to have a "fair" world. It would bankrupt us overnight. So we must find a balance between fairness and reality. It has to be an ethics or set of values we can afford.

It's really existential in nature. Whne you realize morality has a bottom line $$$$. Humanity has known since we were babies that we're evil. We cannot address every instance of evil. There will never be true fairness. It's a reality we all eventually accept. But somehow in between acceptance and our ultimate death we forget. We get righteous and start to pay for one thing after another that we cannot afford. It's like a holy crusade. And then what? Well I guess it's for the next generation to figure out. They'll know just as well as us, at least at first, that high moral aims are expensive. But just like us they'll eventually lose sight of this and chase after evil.

Me, I just accept it. It's a dog eats dog world. This is the roman arena. If you're good enough to stand among us, then stand proud, otherwise please get out of our way. That's my mantra. Survival of the fittest is alive more than it ever has been. The rich and affluent will be our future. The lower class will stay that way. They almost always do. It's not the fault of the rich that the lower class are lower class. Reality is just the facts, it's not an opinion or a judgment. If you're lower class and want a better life, you'll have to compete with those who're much further down the road than you and the odds are against you, but this is the arena, so fight to the death! Complaining won't help. Asking for entitlement won't do any good. You must fight and win.

It's not a mistake that youth want to be heroes. They want to win. But reality... is another matter. Reality is not your mother or father. Reality will kill you with indifference in its cold eyes.

What's the meaning of all of this? Become a novelist and write about it. Make a new religion. Be bold. But evolution doesn't need a reason. It just is. It exists like a trembling mountain. Do you?

Truth is, nobody should need a reason. You either are here or you're not.
