The U.S. National Security Agency declassified a 202 year-old file today titled Cryptology: Instruction Book on the Art of Secret Writing. The NSA said the release was realization of Barack Obama’s “Memorandum on Transparency and Open Government.” (And, certainly, the declassification was unquestionably progressive in its championship of transparency at the risk of alienating key allies such as Prussia, Siam or the Ottoman Empire.)

Reasonable because nations such as Prussia, Siam and the Ottoman Empire do not exist anymore

How clever of you to solve the mystery of the article writer's sarcasm.

How much you want to bet that they all do not get "lost"? See you in 200 years to collect.

Two words that should never be in the same sentence:

Obama. Transparency.

At least they are still around to declassify. I recently found out lots of files are destroyed after 25 years. A person is supposed to go through the file and then decide whether to keep it.

It would be far cheaper today just to scan the file then to have someone look at it.
